Documents family farm life with Boer goats and horses
February 13, 2007-HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

PA is slowly getting covered with a think layer of beautiful snow, and the children are rejoicing as school was dismissed early today!  Ruby and Mindy are starting to show their pregnancies, and I expect Ruby to deliver  in ealry March.  Mindy may be about a month later, but she is definitely eating enough to add some weight to her kids quickly.

I plan to deworm tomorrow if the weather allows me, as I have been reading that kidding often activates worm cysts within goats.  I carefully selected a dewormer different from last time that is ok for lactating goats.  I love my Safegaurd, but I don't want to risk that with pregnant and milking goats.

We also have to finally acknowledge that the time has come to trim hooves again which is a fight for us with the buck.  The does aren't bad to handle, but the work is made difficult when they try to lay down.  My hands are exhausted by the time they all are trimmed, and I leave the farm very thankful for a helpful husband!  If I had to trim the buck alone, well, he'd be in elf shoes!
