We are thankful for the rain that has fallen over the last two days. The gauge tells us that we have received about 4 or 5 inches. We have been busy with the animals.
We took our 3 month old calf to the vet yesterday as she has a hernia which is actually strgangulating her intestine. Not good news for our heifer "Velma". We are trying a non-invasive technique initially. The vet strapped on cardboard aroudn belly to attempt to allow that abdominal area to close up naturally. We are hoping this approach works as sugrery may not be an option for us. The vet and the kids had fun seeing some freshly-hatched snapping turtles in his driveway. They were tiny, and they were certainly the only snapping turles that I have encouraged the children to pick up.
Fast forward to the horses...we relocated Tony and Tootise to our parents' home to ease the rpessure on our two other pastures. They seem to really enjoy the extra pasture space, and they simply love being together. Tootsie keep just looking over at us like "Are you really leaving us here?"
