Documents family farm life with Boer goats and horses
June 5th...summer is here and we are hopping!

The strawberries are ripe, the hay is being made, and the Spring chicks are about full size.  Red sex link pullets (about 13 weeks) sold for $6.75 at auction last Tuesday, so we plan to raise some more chicks.  We really enjoy them when they are small, and there is a demand for layers locally.  I'd love to raise even more, but space often limits our endeavors.

School is offically over until August, so I have enjoyed spending more time with the children.  One of our 4-month-old doelings was hurt last week, so we took her to the vet.  She had a broken pelvis, and we are clueless what happened to her.  It was disappointing as we plan to keep her as a breeding doe.

I have waged war on tent caterpillars.  I tired to burn them, but now I just try the mechanical IPM method with a stick and a bunhc of hungry chickens.  ....very cheap and effective...

We have a guest at the farm, our friend's mini horse.  He hates the goats, so it is tricky to feed them all peacefully.  Tony, our pony, just seems to thankfully ignore all the shenanigans!
