Lesson 1
Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, and can be seen in the early morning, or late night sky. On June 26th, tomorrow, you will be able to see Mercury right after sunset by Jupiter in the western sky. Mercury is one of the rockiest planets in our solar system. It has a thin rocky surface, and is mostly made up of Iron. Normally planets have moons like ours, but in Mercury's case none we know exisit. Mercury got it's name from the greek mesenger god who was very swift. it got this name because it is so quick to enter and leave our night sky.

Lesson 2
The planet we will be studying today will be Venus. Venus is the second planet from the sun, and it's right between Mercury and our beloved planet Earth. Venus has a year of 225 days, but it rotates slower than Earth. In the time Earth rotates once it takes Venus 243 days, so it's day is longer than it's year. It also rotates around the sun east to west, which is the opposite of all the other planet. Venus is closest in size to Earth. Venus has a rocky surface that is made of iron, and below it's thin surface is tons of boiling lava from volcanoes. Venus is named after the greek god of love an beauty. It can be seen for several months a year in the early morning, or in the evening. It is out shined only by the moon.

The planet we will be studying today will be our own planet Earth. Earth is the same size as Venus, or just about. Our year, or the time it takes us to get once around the sun, is 365 days. Earth has one moon named moon. Earth is the third planet from the sun following Mercury and Venus.
