Old Man ahead of me.
2/12/04
Walking into the bank in a rush, an old man jumped in line ahead. I thought, "Thank you very much!" He looked at me and smiled, In an apologetic way. I wondered what he seemed to know, what his smile didn't say. He seemed to be thinking, About what, I didn't know. At the same time I'd decided just to let it go. All at once, I realized what it was I'd seen. The old man was once young like me. Once he had big dreams. I'd been thinking of just myself In my big rush that day. I realized I really did have time. More time than him, I'd say. Once I finally got inside,, I was surprised to see, the old man was waiting there, holding a spot for me.
