What happens when the lights go out.

I lowered the leather book and surveyed the room. Ralinan owed me ten gold pieces; every single one of them was asleep. Man Im good.
I smiled and looked to the door, he leaned against the frame patiently watching me. I smirked at him and, without saying a word, rose to my feet. Turning I placed the book back on the chair and drifted down the path of sleeping guests. There is always a path for me, I dont know if they do it on purpose or if its simply an accident. Interesting ne?
My white dress trailed along the ground after me, making a soft wisping sound to mark my progress. When I was in reaching distance he reached up and brushed his fingertips over my ears.
We shared a smile before he offered me his arm. Still smirking I slipped my silk covered hand into his and let him move me along down the hallway.
"You owe me ten gold pieces Ra darling." I said, bringing up conversation has always been my forte.
He smiled and dug into one of his pockets, placing them in my waiting palm. "I still dont understand how you do it."
I let my smirk turn into a grin. "Do you
really want to know?"
He laughed and gave a fake shiver. "When you put it that way, no."
His free hand brushes through my coiled hair and finds the pin, tugging it gently out. Seconds later my hair falls down, floating against the back of my silk covered thighs. It flooded over my face and I had to pause to pull it back so I could see. He smirks and wraps his arm around my shoulders, finding a tendril of honey brown hair to play with while we walk.
"Mm, its like silk Lil how do you do it?" he asked, running my hair through his thumb and forefinger.
I giggled and reached up, trailing a finger down his lips. "I use the right flowers, and I mix the right waters love, thats like asking you how you kiss better then any other man?" I raise an eyebrow suggestively and he laughed again.
"Why flirting again, Lil sweet heart?"
"Maybe maybe not." He smirks and his tongue flicks out, tickling my fingers.
I giggle and snatch my hand away. Were almost there.
"Do you think its changed yet love?" I asked.
He lets my hair fall back down and leans closer, his gold eyes taking up my whole view. "You never know until you see it."
I lick my lips and lean toward him, turning my head ever so slightly. His smile deepens and our lips brush together. Its a warm heated chaste kiss and I draw back, already at a loss for breath.
Ralinan is like that, he makes me lose focus, makes my heart go pitta, patter. Its not romantic ideals, hes just like that.
We smiled at each other and then were there.
I sighed and step away from him, looking around. It never changes, I wish it would, I wish it would get better. But sometimes war leaves forever marks.
In our hundredth year of living in our castle, the humans decided to wage war, on all and everything that was magical, no one saw it coming. They started with the evil creatures, which was strange, but never the less a good thing right? Wrong, they literally killed every single evil thing, dragons, goblins, and orcs, undead everything. And the cosmic balance is such a strange one it replaced all the evil in the hearts of the humans. So they evil was gone, but there were still magical creatures. So they started attacking the forest dwelling creatures, nymphs, centaurs, unicorns all of them. We were getting scared when the unicorns were attacked. It meant something was wrong. Others fled, some hid then the dwarfs were next, followed by the halfings and finally they turned on the elves. I will never forget some of the bloodshed I saw when I watched those battles, thousands were killed in no justice what so ever! Soon there were only a few of us left, elves were great and many, powerful, but the humans overran them with sheer number alone. We had so many come to our castle, seeking haven, we were lucky, and we were able to find room for all. And then of course, the egg came. I truly thought all the dragons had been killed when the forest dwellers were attacked, but no three survived. I was given an egg to guard, as we were one of the last safe havens with a portal to the other realms. Of course, it didnt last. The humans found us, and we were forced to evacuate. I sent the dragon too another realm for me to get later on. Soon Ralinan and I were the only ones left in our castle. It was eerie, being alone in our castle; we were so used to the sounds of other people bustling about. But there was no time for that, because then the attack started. It wasnt clean, it wasnt quick and it wasnt fun. I suppose any other mages wouldnt have even stood a chance, may I thank the gods sometimes for the amount of power I harness. I remember the eighth day of siege we went under, I dont think Ra or I slept the entire time. The smell of burnt flesh, the amount of fireballs being thrown around, a tower falling because neither of us could get there in time. The wards flickering like mad as the distortion spells hit, the summoned creatures roaring. Then we lost the castle; it was just too much magic to hold up.
So we retreated to the gardens, and that is where the war ended and where we stood now.
Ralinan threw up a pure magic barrier, which only allowed an elemental to cast magic through. They had a fire and earth elemental on their side. I almost pitied the fools when they revealed themselves to me:
Another flower erupted out of the ground, blooming at an alarming rate. "Lilly!" Ralinan yelled at me, forcing me to divert my attention from the fireball to the flower. "Dammit! Stupid sneak!" I held up my right palm the tattoo of wind glowing red. It was so hot, I had a pounding headache and my right hand was burning up. "Goddess wind! I summon thy!" a huge air elemental ripped out of the ground and surrounded the flower, pulling it out and throwing it back at the humans. It only killed twenty of them. Growling I turned my attention back to the fireball, which was held immobile by my water spell. I furrowed my brows and pushed my left palm forward, the tattoo of water flashing with blue light. Acid dripped to the ground and I forced myself not to push too hard.
The other mage obviously wasnt very good at holding onto a spell and the fireball vanished under a wave of water. I lowered my hands and breathed heavily. I was having trouble staying connected to the ground. Ralinan dodged some molten lava and looked at me. Theyd combined powers to make lava. I closed my eyes and rotated my shoulders. "Goddess Wind! Come forth!" the air elemental appeared again and floated before me. I put my two palms together. "Lady Water! I summon thy!" a water elemental appeared next to the air elemental. I let my palms connect and heard the wailing sound, opening my eyes I let my hands glide out infront of my body and separate. "Wind and water combine. ICE!" Ralinan watched the new clothing appear over my body, he wisely didnt say anything, as I use my powers my clothing changes.
A long white dress with little light blue crystals on the shoulders appeared over me, my green sword turned blue and my hair was decorated with white dust.
The two elementals swirled around together then fell onto the humans, a giant filed of ice covering everything, and killing the humans beneath it. I finished the spell and held up my left hand, watching the acid drip to the ground again before calling the spell. "Earth crusher" my tattoo of earth flared to life and spikes flew up along the ground, crunching the ice and destroying all. Ralinan watched a distant look on his face that said he was having as much trouble trying not to weep as I was. I leaned against a tree, smearing the acid over it, the acid didnt effect the tree luckily and I breathed heavily. I must have looked spent.
Two figures stepped from behind a small crevice and laughed. "All done. Now die you hell spawn!" one of them yelled.
Ralinan yelled out and I looked up, seeing the fireball coming straight for me. Golden eyes met mine and Ralinan fell to the ground, something red welling up on his chest. A shiver ran down my spine when I saw the man behind my soul mate, a large spike in hand, the tip covered with blood.
The air went stale and the fireball vanished in a puff of smoke. The fire elemental mage looked baffled.
"How. Dare. You." I couldnt keep my feet on the ground any longer and I found myself floating up into the air. My clothing was flickering from red to green to blue to white. It settled on white. "Goddess Wind!" the air elemental was back again it drove at the two men and I closed my eyes to the sight. Flesh ripping away from bones, the sounds of agonising screams as their flesh was peeled away from them, muscles being ripped.
I fell to the ground, sick to my stomach. I couldnt keep it in. I hurled up what little food Id taken. Tears streaming down my face.
Cool hands around my head, keeping me safe, on the ground. When Id finished I leaned back into Ralinans embrace. He wrapped me in his arms and rocked me gently. "Its all right you had no other choice."
My hands sought out the place where hed been hit and found smooth skin. "Shh, you remember my healing ability." He hushed. I sobbed and nodded hugging him closer. I had a terrible headache, my right hand was on fire and the acid was gone though.

That was the last day of the battle. But the scars were still here. The land was barren, magically scarred.
Ra took my hand and drew me out onto the dirt.
"Lillyanya use youre magic."
The tattoo of earth glinted on my hand in his and the clearing was suddenly flooded with life. The ground beneath us was lush and grassy; flowers of all sorts and description were scattered everywhere. Trees shot up and bloomed, purple and pink flowers appearing. Just like it was. Ra wrapped one arm around my waist and kept hold of my other hand. Then he used his magic.
A slow song, one that you dont start but is always going, came up. Gently wrapping around us and setting us in motion.
"La, la, la. La, la, la, la. La, la, la, la. La, la, la, la." I tapped into the source of the song and moved in rhythm with him.
Our feet werent even touching the grass as we danced. Swirling around in a mixture of magic and power.
I snuggled closer to him and smiled. His voice whispering in my head. "What happens when the lights go out?"
I smiled.
Yes.
This is what happens.
Not every night.
But most of the time.
And what more?
What else does anyone need?
~ End.
