| I decided to make a site basically for me. I need some sort of way to express freely how I feel in regards to music, and how my musical tastes have evolved. Many people who know me or may have seen my picture or seen me would probally not even think I listen to any sort of rock..but that's wrong. I'll explain my journy through music and what has brought me to love the music I am so found of today..Punk. Well growing up in Florida with my Papi my love affair with music began at an early age. I was always listening to Spanish music, and I use to play the congos, bongos, meracas, and a mini spanish gutair along with it. We also listened to Rap, R&B, and Dance music that was popular during the time. (such as Dr.Dre, NWA, Babyface, Keith Sweat, and songs like that one "Pump up the jams put it up..") And at the time I loved it, but I was completly oblivious of any other types of music out there, since I was so young. Once I turned 6 and moved to Ohio I was surroned with completly diffrent types of music, and was suprised to know not everyone liked Dr.Dre or Los Lobos. My mom however still listened to her beloved Keith Sweat. But where I had moved nearly everyone listened to Country. So being so young, and never hearing such music before, I was clearly intrigued. Awhile I had discovered how much I enjoyed singing, and sadly I had once wanted to be a country singer. And by the time I was seven I started reliezing how many genres of music there was out there, and I began my love affair with The Beach Boys. It didn't stop there, among my many Beach Boy tapes I had accumulated I had all sorts of other oldies, such as the Supremes, the Temptations, and other big stars of the 50's and 60's. I found myself borrowing more music from my grandma and grandpa then anyone else. But as I grew older I started watching Mtv and listening to new types of music, my babysitters Lisa and Kim played a big part in this. Lisa was a big fan of Guns N' Roses and she opened my eyes to all kinds of new music. From there my love for music grew and devolped on a whole new level. While I discovered bands such as Nirvana, Blind Melon, and Sublime. I reliezed just how much I liked that kind of music. I was one of the only kids labeled "popular " who listened to that kind of music. And by the time the pop sensation hit I was one of the few unfazed. But that didn't last long. Seeing all my friends listened to the Boy bands I too sadly had gotten into them. But when 6th grade hit I came back to my senses, and went back to Listening to Rap and Rock. By then I had discovered a band that changed my life, a rock band from Bakersfield California, KoRn. I became so into them, I ditched all my "popular" friends(whom I had relized were not true friends to begin with,) and my preppy look. From there I turned a variation of Goth, Punk, and Grunge. I had a Korn shirt for everyday, and I always wore baggy pants. I would wear dark make up and black nail polish, and of course the ridicual began. But I didn't care, because for the first time in my life I was expressing myself. Besides KoRn I became a fan of Limp Bizkit, Manson, Orgy, Lit, Blink182,Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, and many other bands. But I must say I discovered my favorite band of all time during this period, the band being non other than Fenix TX. After Middle school it was clear to anyone around me what music I liked, and I had finally been happy with myself and my surrondings. But then I moved... When high school began I dropped my Goth/Grunge look, and went more for the Skater Punk look. I had gotten more into Punk music and I was friends with mostly skaters. But after sophmore year my look changed again, as did my taste in music. I began listening to alot more Rap, Hip-Hop, and R&B. And I wasn't hanging around the skaters anymore.. More recently you'd see me dressing more girly, and trendy..and pretty conservative.(I also wore alot of urban clothes such as JLo, Ecko, and Rocca Wear) This has alot to do with my mom, she was on me since the start of my whole goth grunge punk look to dress like her, and act more girly. But also, I am in the process of becoming a model, so I kind of have to keep with the trends. But now I dress emoish and kinda punk, my style varies from day to day.. But looking at my life and all I have done, and all the changes I have made, I think what makes me the most happy is Punk. And I don't care about being the stereotypical Latina anymore. So I'm just going to be me..I love Punk music, and Rock in general. I love Emo, and Classic rock. My favorite band is still Fenix TX even though they broke up. *tear* And most every band I listen to is punk. (or Pop-Punk or Emo however you want to catagorize it.) A few bands I like and reccomend are as follows: Fenix TX, Denver Harbor, ChChChHaHaHa, Wakefield, Lit, Allister, Simple Plan, Something Corporate, New Found Glory, Dashboard Confessional, Good Charlotte, Sum41, Puddle of Mudd, The Exies, Trapt, Alien Ant Farm, Korn, Orgy, Finch, Gob, RX Bandits, Benjamins, Midtown, Starting Line, Home Grown, Take Back Sunday, Early November, Patient Pending, Pensive, Less Than Jake, and Reel Bigh Fish. ect |
