American by birth . . . Country by the Grace of God
I've heard some people say (alright a LOT of people have said it) that they do not like country/western music because it is "depressing" or something only an inbred redneck could enjoy stompin' their boots in the dust to. But really, most of the latest country tunes on the radio waves are as upbeat, happy, and rockin' as all that strobe light thumpin' dance music you might hear in a big city club. Granted, not ALL of it is, but the twang I shake my thang to is. And think about it . . . would someone like ME really wanna be associated with something that only rednecks like??? SHAN DON'T THINK SO!
My favorite country artist at the moment (and yes, just like a finicky woman I change my mind . . . a lot) happens to be Rascal Flatts. It's a little untraditional of me to enjoy their cd so much since they barely play their own instruments and only co-wrote a few of their tunes, but their sometimes popish brand of Nashville just gets me going in the morning, and the afternoon, and hell, why not push it all the way through the night, too!
Another great artist is Tim McGraw. A bit more country than RF, and, I feel, a lot more staying power. Seems like he's been around forever already. I can't remember when I did not know who Tim was. In fact, he sings my and my bf's song, "It's Your Love", a duet with Tim's wife, Faith Hill. I hope to get a better MIDI of the song up here soon. So watch, I mean listen, for it!
But the absolute epitome of rockin' country these days has GOT to be Keith Urban. Kiwi/Aussie cutie pie, blond, blue-eyed, tight ass (okay, maybe now I'm going a little overboard, but you gotta admit, that boy's got the hottest little country body on the planet! Such a shame he's str8 . . . ). Keithypoo's latest single, "Raining On Sunday" is launching up the charts, as his new album, 'Golden Road,' is also. I haven't caught Keith in concert yet. But I aspire . . .
Honorable mentions go out to these country bands and artists: Deana Carter, Martina McBride, Blackhawk, Steve Azar, Emerson Drive, Sons of the Desert, Trick Pony, and Sara Evans.
This LiL irish Boi likes country music so much he even attempted to sing some back in college. THAT didna last long. Incurable and massive stagefright. But I got some recording in. Some have actually called my voice "sexy". I don't understand why, but if they've said so, then, whadda I do? You gotta REALLY be on my good side to get a hold of that crud though . . .
I also work at a country radio station. Small ass piddly broadcasting tower in the middle of the middle of nowhere. And my job is off-air, so don't drive all the way over here thinking you're gonna hear my sexy voice deejaying and spinning Keith Urban and Tim McGraw hits. It just don't work that way. Sorry.
But go ahead and check out the tuneage I can pick up on my car radio antenna!
