Experience and Interests

Lilian has finally graduated with her BASc in May 2002! In case anyone's interested - following is a brief (brief!) Curriculum Vitae as of 2002.

Program of Study:

University of British Columbia, BASc in Engineering Physics, Electrical Option.

Highschool:

Point Grey Secondary, Vancouver BC Canada

Goals:

To pursue research in innovative and novel materials, particularly ones that will potentially improve the well-being and quality of life of the society.

Experience:

Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to participate and work on numerous projects ranging from designing simple IC's, to building a solar car. In particular, I was delighted to be part of the senior Engineering Physics project group receiving the 2002 Roy Nodwell Prize for our work in building a robotic ray.

As a participant of NRC's WES program, I am currently working in the Sensing and Microsystems group on several Micro Fuel Cell affiliated projects under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Wu. Over the past several years, I was very fortunate to have had the chance to work at the Photonics and Nanostructures Laboratory at UBC, where I studied photoluminescence from light-emitting polymers and investigated the presence of surface plasmons in thin film structures. I have also spent some time at the Chalk River Laboratories with the Neutron Program to investigate Hydrogen ingress in a Zirconium-Niobium alloy.

Alongside my academia-related work, I (with the rest of my family) have been looking after my father following his debilitating strokes in 1999. Since then, I have also taken on the responsibility of operating the family farm located in Abbotsford, BC.

Interests:

I love to play the piano, by myself or with a chamber group. I also love graphics and webpage design! Some of my other hobbies (...when I have time for them) include reading, volunteering, and smacking badminton birds.
