Many of the people gathered in the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota. It is here that they formed the Compound and became their own country. There, tucked and hidden away, the Basque people waited for the birth of twins to save them and give them power. The twins, both girls, were born. Devika was born with lavender eyes and Ira with black. The purple eyed child was sheltered for she was the savior and the black eyed child was raised as a warrior so that the savior would always be protected. Devika, the purple eyed girl, became something of a religious icon to her people while Iratze’s only purpose in life was to protect her sister. When Devika was fifteen she was given a vision that saved the life of the Basque people’s leader and gave them the power to humble their enemy, the Sioux of South Dakota. After that she was locked away, hidden and protected. Her life was lived in secret and she was forbidden to interact with any but her sister. Ira was the voice, eyes, and ears of her sister as well as her protector. Devika never developed social skills and seems shy and slightly off to those she does meet. Iratze appears rough and stern to any and all who attempt to speak to her. The only way for Devi to see the outside world was to run away, however she would always come back after a night of exploring and seeing other people. On those nights Ira feels as if she has no will to live for her only purpose in life is to make Devi safe. Recently Devi has run away and not returned. Ira is beside herself with worry and fear and has not slept in hopes she will find her twin. Devika was taken in by D. Stanton and the Devereux Clan. For the first time in her life she feels alive. The Basque people are searching for Devi and Ira hoping that those who know of the power of the twins will not seek to destroy them before they can find them. |
