Adelaide Roussell

Adelaide was something of a prodigy in her childhood. There were few things that were introduced to Adelaide that she did not present an aptitude towards. Her parents quickly ushered her into private schools, coupled with private tutors in an effort to have a child to be envied by their circle of peers-- the rich sophisticates of Boston, a club Adelaide's grandfather had bought them into with his jewelry business. Her mother's hopes were steadily disappointed as Adelaide's taste for education lay solely with art. Her father, however, proudly displayed them in his store.

Throughout the years, her paintings became more than simply displays of paternal pride. Canvases of her finished paintings were stretched over smuggled and stolen artwork that passed through her father. Elaborate frames that hung the paintings on the walls were carefully constructed with hidden compartments to smuggle jewels in. Both lucrative side businesses for Monsieur Jérôme Roussell. As they grew, his paranoia did as well. Adelaide's mother divorced Jérôme, and abandoned her 'disappointment' daughter, removing herself from their lives completely. It was during these years that Adelaide revealed another natural talent. She had a nearly infinite memory for secrets and information never meant for any little girl. Her father never hesitated to use such impeccable memory.

After only a few years, the millions of dollars in illegal jewels and artwork could not protect Jérôme from murder. As the last person to see him alive, Adelaide is said to be the only person to know of the whereabouts of the finest of rare Cambodian rubies, rumored to be worth millions. And Adelaide is good at keeping secrets.
