Dementia

How I understand Dementia is to imagine you are at a meeting or at work, sitting at the desk with everything going on around. You can hear voices, your collegues will appear to be talking to you. Watching the clock you see its almost time to leave, so you pack up everything and close down the computer and walk off to the door.
The door will not open, you push it many times still it does not open. So you think on it. You look around and no one else is left in the room.
You are locked in, eventually someone comes up behind you and asks where you are intending on going, you would reply home of course. But the voice replies back this is your home.

You are angry now and think is this a joke or what! When infact its all real but you can't seem to understand. Then this person in a uniform is trying to keep you locked in. You are finding it hard to understand what they are talking about, the words are not making sence. You reply, but my family will be wondering where I am if do not get home.
The person then replies, its ok they know you are here. Now you are thinking this is not funny, and a worried look appears, you feel threatened and try to explain but the words you are speaking are not getting through. Now you are totally confused and angry, you reply with, you cant keep me here!

You are now lead off to another area of the building, the surroundings are not familiar to you, you feel frightened. You are sat down in a chair and asked if you want a cup of tea. You agree to have tea, then once that person in a uniform has left the room, you decide to attempt your escape route one more time. Only this time you cannot find the door! So you wander up and down and round and round for what seems like hours to find the main entrance door.
Time passes and that person in uniform appears again, this time leading you off to a bedroom. Some how you remember the room, then all of a sudden your clothes are being removed, you do not take kindly to this and start to shout out for help, or call a loved ones name. What are these people doing to you. After a struggle you are now dressed in your nightware, and left to wander about the room as you wish. So again you go for a walk up and down, your feet hurt and you decide to sit in one of the chairs. After a while that person in the uniform is back and before you know it you are being put in bed and the lights are turned down.
As you lay there thinking and worrying you eventually go to sleep.

This is based on a typical person with dementia, from caring for them. I have often thought I would rather die than go through this hell on earth disease. Make the most of your memories for as dementia progresses into more advanced stages you will no nothing of your past, you may remember a face from the past. Everyones dementia is varied but the symptoms are similar.

I wake up, it's a bad dream
No one on my side
I was fighting
But I just feel too tired
To be fighting
Guess I'm not the fighting kind
Wouldn't mind it
If you were by my side
But you're long gone
Yeah you're long gone now
Where do we go?
I don't even know
My strange old face
And I'm thinking about those days
