Kara drowsily walked from her room to the kitchen where she went to the fridge and poured herself a glass of orange juice.

The front door slammed open as Megan jogged in with a water bottle in her hand. "Morning, Kara."

"Mm-hmm," Kara replied with a mouthful of Cheerios.

Megan ran into her room and came out ten minutes later dressed in a long black skirt and a perfectly ironed white blouse.

"What are you all dressed up for?" Kara asked while reading the newspaper.

Megan put her left earring on while trying to put a three-inch high heel on simultaneously. "Oh, me and Rich are going out."

"Oh, have fun."

"Wanna come? We're just going out to lunch and then he has to leave for a business meeting," Megan offered.

Kara stared at her like she was stupid and lifted up a spoonful of cereal. "Meg. I'm still eating breakfast and you ask if I wanna come have lunch with you?" She shook her head and ate the Cheerios that were waiting to be eaten. "Besides," she continued, "I don't want to get in your way or anything."

Those words were so familiar to Megan. She remembered the countless times Kara and Justin invited her to dinner or lunch and she 'didn't want to get in their way.' The guilt was beginning to build up.

"Are you sure?" she asked once more.

"Yeah," Kara said getting up from the breakfast table. "I'm tired anyway." That was very ironic with the fact Kara had slept in until 11:30. "I'm gonna go take a nap," she said walking towards her room.

Megan stared at Kara's bedroom door with the echo of it closing repeating in her ears.

She felt bad that she was telling her best friend about her date with her boyfriend. She felt even worse because of what happened last night. But she didn't want to make a big deal of it sine Kara obviously hadn't.

Megan slowly walked to the door. As she opened it, she was face to face with a tall  blue-eyed, brown haired guy around twenty-five years old.

"JC?" she asked, confused. "What are you doing here?"

"Nice to see you too, Megan," he replied.

Megan grinned widely and gave him a big hug. "So what are you doing here?" she asked, letting him go.

JC didn't answer. Megan looked down and noticed that her feet were on the soft shaggy pale pink carpet and JC's were still on the gray cement doorstep. "Oh, come in," she smiled.

JC stepped in and looked around. "You have a nice place here." He looked down at Megan. "What were you saying?"

"I asked why you were here," she repeated.

He motioned his thumb out the door. "Well, Melanie's sister's getting getting married here and I thought if I'm here I might as well stop by and say hi to some of my favorite girls."

"Right here," Kara mumbled.

"Hey, Care-bear!" he said holding his arms out. She fell into them, happy to see an old friend, but not being able to show it.

"What are you doing here?" She asked.

JC rolled his eyes. "Melanie's sisster, Lauren, is getting married and I wanted to drop by and say 'what's up?'"

"Well, I'm glad you're here," Kara said hugging him again. "Where is Melanie?"

JC let her go. "Oh, she's out helping Lauren with her dress and last minute stuff."

Megan looked up at the clock. "Ooh, well, I gotta go. I'm gonna be late. Rich's probably waiting already." She gave Kara a quick hug and JC a peck on the cheek. "See you guys later."

"Say hi to Rich for me," Kara smiled, hiding the pain and jealousy she had of her best friend for still having her boyfriend. And even though JC was her boyfriend's best friend, she was envious of him for still having his girlfriend. But over the months, Kara had learned to cover things up very well. Or so she thought.

"Yeah," JC chimed in, "Me too."

Megan waved goodbye and left.
