The Brightest Star

It would all be the same. Nothing would change, and everything would go along as planned. She promised herself that it wouldnt be different. She knew back in her mind that promises were meant to be broken.

The warm, sensual night breeze blew her hair back and she glanced up at the tiny stars in the sky. Not mine, She whispered aloud, now looking at the 76 dark green Cadillac a few feet away.

But although she wished it would stay the same, in her mind she knew. She shouldve just let it go. She just wanted to be free. She never seemed to get what she wanted. She never wanted to fall in love, just like she never wanted her heart broken.

His almost silent whispers in her ear seemed to cloud her mind. His green eyes seemed to haunt her vision. His soft lips and sweet words seemed to stay close to her soul. He said things would never change. But yet, they did. They were in two different worlds now.

She forced herself not to shed tears. That meant she was weak and if she was, she didnt plan on proving it. She remembered the last time they kissed. She kept replaying it in her dreams; she replayed it in her fantasies. She even replayed it when a simple song came on the radio. She wasnt over it.

He smiled at her, warmly. I love you. I love you with all my heart.

She wrapped her arms around his figure. I love you more. She spoke, softly.

He touched her tan skin and pulled back her dirty blonde hair behind her ear. I bet you do.

She twirled in his arms. I bet I do, too.

Memories flooded her mind and by the time she realized, she found a tiny tear roll down her cheek. It was pathetic that she was still crying over him. She took a breath, deeply, trying to control the emotions engulfing her body. They were doing fine. They did fine doing nothing at all. She guessed they were just like that. She made him happy, and he made her the happiest woman ever. Her hopes were soaring in the crystal blue sky.

She remembered the sound of his voice and the scent of his clothes, and she inhaled picturing him there next to her. It was almost if he was there next to her. The sad thing was she knew he wasnt.

Get over it, damn it. She yelled, angrily to herself. Im sure he doesnt love you anymore! She spoke harshly. Youre ugly! Look at you! Youre the ugliest thing in the world!

She gazed down at her figure before breaking into tears. It was true that things would never be the same. She would never be the way she was when they were together. Things were never the same- emotionally and physically. She laid herself down on the wooden bench that was seated on the small porch, in the middle of nowhere. She never wanted to be seen by anyone ever again. She just wanted to disappear.

There was one thing she knew. She knew that he meant it when he said he loved her. He meant it when he promised he would be there no matter what.
Promises are meant to be broken, right? She questioned, sarcastically.
She looked back at the 76 Cadillac, which was the cause of all this. She wished it was the cause of all of it, but she knew deep in her mind the truth. It was her fault. It was her carelessness that brought the problems to her. She gazed up at the stars, and picked the brightest one she could find. She closed her eyes, holding her hands in a tight fist. I wish he loved me. I want change in my life.

Change brought her there, and change was going to get her out of that small, wooden house with the porch and the 76 Cadillac and back in her babys arms. 1
