Emily laughed, bitterly, out loud before taking a sip of her virgin daiquiri. She was never much of a drinker; people said she didnt need to be drunk to make a fool out of herself.

She looked at the amazingly quiet bar surrounding her. All she could hear is the pitter-pattering of the rain outside the widows and ESPNs replay of the NBA game between the Lakers and the Sacramento Kings.

She twirled the straw around in her glass before taking another sip. We were suppose to be getting married. We were going to start a family with two sons and one daughter. She sighed, placing her head in her hands, He was suppose to be satisfied with me. This wasnt suppose to end up this way.

The bartender gave her a sympathetic look, simply placing another virgin daiquiri next to her. She was going on her fourth, but her bladder was giving in.

She smiled up, thankfully. Do you know how it feels? She questioned, sadness flowing into her eyes. Have you ever felt like your heart was captured and torn into millions of pieces by the person you thought you could trust the most?

He shook his head to signal he never had. All you have to do is get back on your feet and move on.

I laughed, bitterly, biting the straw. Yeah, if only it were that easy.

He looked around a little bit, examining the empty room. Well, it looks like I have time. Why dont you tell me about it? He pulled up a stool across from her, seating himself onto it. It seems pretty bad.

Well, it wasnt the best thing in my life, if you know what Im saying. He nodded and she continued, sullenly.

His name was Lance, and we were in love. We werent always like that, but I guess our friendship just took its course and led to something else. He was going out with a girl named Megan back then. She was some sort of television show on VH1 and everyone thought their relationship was a match made in heaven.

I met him one day at the beach, where I went when I needed to calm myself down. I guess he needed to also because he was there sitting on the sand within eyeshot of me. It was so silly because we both wouldnt talk to each other like we both were monsters or something crazy like that. So being me, I finally had the courage to go up to him and say hi.

Thats how we became friends. I thought of him as only a friend, nothing else. But I knew my heart was going in a different direction and I was getting confused. I didnt really know what I wanted anymore. He still had his girlfriend, but their relationship was getting rocky and I was there to help him through it. In the process, I became closer with Lance.

Then finally there was this one day when he couldnt take it anymore. I guess she could read the future because she broke up with him that same day. The strange thing was, he wasnt hurt at all. I stood by him, trying to be as best of a friend as I could.

Somehow by the end of this, I fell in love with him. This is kind of a feeling that I couldnt even start to explain. There are so many things I couldnt even begin to remember, but I know that when I was with him I could picture my future in his eyes. I was head over heels for Lance and that satisfactory feeling I got every time I realized he was mine was irreplaceable.

We started planning our future and building it step by step. We even planned the perfect place to get married, or the perfect place where our family would live. I thought we were going to have the prettiest children. You know, the kind you only thought would come out of fairytales. I was so freaking excited for everything to happen! I slammed my fist down on the wooden table before continuing.

Then I dont know how it happened, but one day he told me hed been seeing Megan again. I didnt think of anything because I trusted him with all my heart. He told me it was for publicity and that their managers wanted them back together.

Funny how I realized it wasnt because of their managers. His heart was stolen away once again. He actually cared about her more than he let on. Id hear him late at night leaving messages on her answering machine or sometimes he would sneak out at two in the morning when he thought I was sleeping. I wasnt sleeping and Id always hear him talking to her on the phone.

But I forgave him because I loved him that much. Once you fall in love for the first time, you fall madly in love. I wouldnt care if I shared him with Megan because at least I had a part of his heart. A part was all I needed to be satisfied. It really wasnt fair what he was doing. He had my whole heart, and I had only a part of his.

Then he announced he was getting married. I was excited thinking it was suppose to be a surprise and I accidentally heard. He came home, beaming happier than Ive ever seen him. He sat me down and looked at me. I thought I was going to start crying because he was going to propose. He told me that he was getting married to Megan.

He was taking advantage of me. This wasnt the Lance I first met. This is the Lance I never wanted to meet in the first place. Thats why Im here, She sipped her fifth daiquiri before continuing, Because Lance didnt love me.

She looked up at the bartender, uncertainly. She just spilled her whole life story out to him. He looked on, almost silently before speaking. Im sorry that had to happen like a sweet girl like you. He smiled, sympathetically. Next time watch out, boys can be heartbreakers.

She nodded, knowingly. Yeah, especially the most innocent ones out there.
