Engle v. Vitale Background Info
Engle v Vitale started when a New York Board of Regents, that introduced a prayer along with the usual Pledge of Allegiance, called the Regent Prayer, a non-denominational prayer that was introduced in accepted by the administration of some  New York High Schools
While students did not have to say this prayer, you could not openly critize or object to this prayer, students did not have to say this. Even as this, parents of ten of the students were object and outraged that this and filed a suit against the school.
This basis of this case is on the seperation of church and state based on the documents of Thomas Jefferson and the establishment clause in the Constiution, thtat bans any religious activty
This is the prayer that was said by many students at the  beginniing of each day
""Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers and our Country"
