Renee Mawhinney: ENGL347 Assignment One Point Five

I found "The Crunkable" to be one of the most horrible comics that I've ever read. I found it very

difficult to read not only this comic but all of them in the series. The colors were very dark with

the exception of the female characters dress which is an aqua. The comic story line did not

makesense in this strip or any other in the sequence of this strip. I guess in order to fully

understand this comic theviewer would have be in contact with the creator. With just looking at

the comic I felt that I was out of an inside joke at most points. The drawings are not that great, it

looks like anyone could do it. This strip looks like a 10 year old sat down and did this. I would

not recomend this comic for anyone. I would not go back to this site to spend any further time

unless it was required to go to for class. The creator of this site took the time to use a web-

based design program to develop this comic for the last several pages. The first several

comics were drawn by hand, then copied to his site for viewing. His drawing skills improved

greatly since the innovatioin of this comic but he still has a long way to go. The overall usability

of this site was not as nice as I would have liked. It was ackward moving from one page of the

site to the next. Finding the buttons was not hard, they are very large and easy to read. The

transitions were just not easily guided.

This web comic I found to be ok. The point of this comic strip is to entertain through characters

that resemble real life characters. I enjoyed how the creator made the storyline relate to real life

issues that almost anyone can relate to. The particular comic I viewed involved two males who

had to remove a basketball that was stuck in a tree. This is something that any father who has a

kid and a basketball hoop can relate to. The creator of this strip drew this strip by hand then

copied it to the web. This comic is also shown in newspapers around the country. I enjoyed the

simplicity of this comic, rather than something that would be difficult to understand. Other

episodes of this comic address other issues that any family can relate to. The colors in the

comic were very bold and eye catching. The drawings were nicely done and the creator definitly

took thier time. The script was brief and to the point. The text was not necessary to convey the

overall message but did not hurt either. I enjoyed the comic and I'm actually considering

bookmarking site. I would highly recomend this comic to other people.

I really enjoyed this comic. At first it appears to be two cells. When the viewer clicks on Carl's

face another cell is added in the middle of the comic. Each time Carl's face is clicked a new

cell is added to the comic. The comic is very simplistic. Carl is nothing more than a fancy stick

figure. The story that this comic is conveying is the consequences of drinking and driving. I liked

how the creator designed the comic. The different cells added to the importance of the story. In

designing it so that the viewer has control was also a good concept. The creator shows that he

knows what he is doing in develping online comics and took the time to do it right. This was not

done overnight, and it shows in the amount of cells that the creator generated to tell the story of

Carl's drunken mistake. Out of all the comics that I have been viewing this one is my favorite. It

cells aren't necessary but are offered so that the viewer can find out how Carl came to die after

his mother told him don't drink and drive. I would read more online comics if they were all laid

out in this format. I liked being able to choose how much of the story I could find out. I would

recomend this site for anyone to try as a introduction to web comics. Navigating/Viewing this

site was rather easy as it was with all of the web-comic sites that I have visited. Some were a

little strange at first but once the initial figuring out was done it was easy to find what I was

looking for.
