.Breakfast is the most important meal of the day' is such a cliche, but it's true. Breakfast 'feeds' your brain and also gets your metabolism going, meaning you burn up calories faster and more efficiently.
.Never skip meals. You might lose a bit of weight at first, but you'll put it on twice as fast after and it's not fair on your body.
.Don't just eat fruit and vegetables. You need a well-balanced diet with carbohydrates, protein etc.
.Don't follow a diet plan like Dr. Atkin's. Any plan where you're supposed to cut down on fruit and veg. is just mad!
.Exercise, but don't think that because you are starting to get more exercise, you can eat more, or eat chocolate or something. You can't.
.Eat 5 portions of fruit/veg a day. This sounds a lot, but if you have a glass of fruit juice for breakfast, something with salad for lunch, and 3 types of veg. with your dinner that would work. Or, take fruit to school as a snack or have it as dessert after lunch/dinner.
.Eat either meat, fish, eggs or cheese with every meal except breakfast.
.Cut down on all and give up 2 of the following: chocolate, candy/sweets, chips/crisps, ice cream, cheese, high fat milk, bacon, eggs, chips/fries, burgers, any fried food.
.Eat fish once a week - it's healthy and reduces cholestrol (apparently); vegetarian is always best though !
.Try not to have seconds and thirds of a meal.
.If you feel hungry after meals, wait 15 minutes and try and concentrate on something else, e.g. TV or reading a book and your cravings should disappear.
.If you have problems in that you always get hungry, eat meals like pasta with veg, stir fry, or something with rice that you can eat as much as you like of because it's healthy.
.Stick to fruit and yoghurts for dessert.
