Someone
Worthy
You patiently wait, day after day, for someone worthy to come along.
Your friends say, "Why bother? You're young! Live
and enjoy!"
And you know there is truth in those words
because your head tells you the same thing.
Yet, all the while, your heart whispers,
"Be patient. Someone worthy will come."
You spend many nights on the phone with your friends,
giggling and talking about your crush and theirs.
Your friends tell you to be content with a certain person,
but your heart whispers,
"Be patient. Someone worthy will come."
You smile with your friends when they describe to you
the happiness of having found someone.
And you wonder when your time will come.
You sympathize with them when they find that their special someone
is not the right one.
And you wonder if you will have a chance to experience
that kind of disappointment, just to see what it is like,
while in your heart you are glad you do not have to.
You rejoice with your friends over their engagements,
wondering if perhaps one day you will get a chance
to be a beaming young woman wearing the glittering promise
of an everlasting love and devotion on her finger.
And you wonder when your turn will come.
There were moments in the past when you thought
that perhaps your time had come,
and you tried to quiet the protests of your heart
because you were so sure that he had at last arrived.
But then you experienced the realization of the truth,
and your only comfort was your heart whispering,
"Be patient. Someone worthy will come."
You know that anyone will suffice,
but you do not give in to the loneliness
that overcomes you sometimes.
There have been times when you wanted so much to,
just to ease the aching deep inside.
But your heart always whispers,
"Be patient. Someone worthy will come."
And you always listen because you know
you are special and worthy
of someone who will be able to fill the emptiness you feel,
worthy of someone's love, and he of yours.
So you know in your heart
that one day your time will come,
and you patiently wait, day after day,
for someone worthy to come along,
hoping that tomorrow will bring his arrival.
