Meet The Contestents: Outstanding Lead Actress: Lynn Herring (Lucy, PC) Article Thanks To Holly
Digest: Were you surprised? Herring: Very. On a half-hour show, what you try to
cram into 22 minutes isn't always obvious. So I was
really thrilled. Digest: Where were you when you heard?
Herring: I was at home and Kin Shriner [Scott, PC]
called me--because he tells me everything [laughs].
He said, "I think we actually got nominated." He was
so excited. It was neat to hear it from him. Digest: What were your finest scenes of the last
year? Herring: There were lots and lots of good, small
scenes. We had the miscarriage the year before, which
was heavy stuff, but this year we had breakups; the
Nurses' Ball; trying to have a baby; being sick;
almost dying....But I'd like to hope it was the
editors recognizing the continued effort to entertain
all year round. Digest: Are you familiar with the work of your
competition--Kim Zimmer and Deidre Hall? Herring: Oh, sure. I admired and respected them for
years before I even got into soaps. I always thought
they were incredibly fabulous. Deidre and I shared a
couple of scenes when I was on DAYS [as Lisanne
Gardner], and Kim I've known a very long time. Digest: Do you know what you'll be wearing? Herring: Not a clue. I don't think about those
things. Digest: Have you prepared a speech? Herring: Heavens no. Digest: What does it mean that the award comes from
the fans? Herring: The "Soap Opera Digest" Awards have always
been my favorites because they come from the people
who are the judges every day. In the [Television]
Academy, we don't watch every single performance,
whereas the viewers have watched probably at least 50
percent of our work. Digest: What other awards have you won? Herring: I think I've had three of your Best
Villainesses and one Hottest Female. So this is my
fifth nomination. I've had a lot of blessings.
