By the age of 15 Johnny was an orphan. Before then he had a life like so many others in what he describes as a "tightly knit ethic community" on Buffalo's working-class East Side. He grew up on the corner of Clark and Kent Streets; as a kid Johnny and his four older sisters called it "Superman Corner." When Johnny's father and mother died within a year of each other (his father of alcoholism; his mother, according to him, of lonlyness), Johnny's life took a dramatic turn. He got an apartment on his own and started hanging out with "shady people." Johnny was the only "punk" at Buffalo's McKinley Vocational High School, where he studied to be a plumber. He made himself a target with a mohawk and a penchant for everything from the for everything from the Cure to Depeche Mode to the Damned and the Replacements. Johnny's cousin was in a band with Robby Takac and they were introduced and became fast friends and not long after, musical collaborators. They formed a band, the Sex Maggots, which later became the Goo Goo Dolls. Johnny is married to Laurie, whom which he wrote some of his songs about

Robby was born on September 30, 1964. Robby was a suburban kid with a Brady Bunch-style background who was completing broadcasting college while playing in a heavy metal band with Johnny's cousin. When Robby met Johnny and eventually formed the Goo Goo Dolls, his parents didn't exactly love the idea. When the band first started Robby was the only vocalist, but he encouraged Johnny to sing and in Johnny's words, "He may have created a monster."

Mike was born in Washington, D.C., on October 10, 1967. He grew up in South Florida and started playing the drums in seventh grade.. Mike is the most recent edition to the Goo Goo Dolls. He recently signed a contract and he's now an "official" Goo Goo Doll. Mike replaced former drummer George Tututska. He had all the Goo Goo Dolls's albums before he joined the band. The Goo's manager called Mike since he used to manage Mike's old band, Careless. He attended North Texas State University (now University of North Texas), enrolled in music, and then became a Philosophy major (no degree). Mike is single, but he does have a girlfriend.
