| Friends in Time |
| Well, it's time for the Torino awards again. The years seem to pass way too fast anymore. I was looking over the nominations page, and nominated my beta reader, Sonja van Schalm, for Outstanding Beta Reader, of course ;o) Then I read what qualifies a person to be the best beta reader ever, and I realized Sonja was so much more than that. So what do you do when your beta reader also happens to be a talented poet? You write her a poem. Sonja, my friend, this one's for you. You don't have to beta this one. It comes straight from my heart. |
It started with a few simple words "You're the one I want" Two people from different worlds Brought together through a shared love In just a short time the word "stranger" Turned to "friend" You guide me through my bouts of insecurity Supporting me Giving me the strength to go on Although I doubted myself Your faith in me never wavered You endure my flashes of anger White hot heat fueled by frustration Calmly you wait until the fire dies "Do you feel better now?" Knowing the flames will never touch you You inspire me with a word With a song With a smile With your courage To face all that you've been through in your life And though we have never met face to face You give me a shoulder to cry on When the world is against me You share in my triumphs And grieve with me when sorrow weighs me down Whenever we need each other Distance has no meaning for us Our hands reach across land And water And time And touch. |
