| This first story isn't really that dark. It's more like a tip of the hat to Alfred Hitchcock, the master of suspense. If you get the jitters when you walk into a dark room, thinking about what's lurking in the shadows, you might want to read this one with the lights on ;o) |
She looked exactly the same as she had four years ago. The black dress with the frilly collar, and her hair up in a bun made her look so innocent! Unfortunately, the knife in her hand didn't. Her eyes glittered menacingly as she smiled at him. "Hi, honey, I'm home!" The moonlight streaming into his balcony shone eerily on the blade as it slashed toward him, and the scream died on his lips as he awoke. He sat up in the darkness, his heart thudding in his chest. Shaken, he threw the covers aside and climbed out of bed. He walked around the apartment, checking the doors and windows, making sure they were locked. Satisfied, he went into the bathroom to wash his face. The phone was ringing as he came out. "Hutchinson." "It's Dobey. I thought you should know that Diana Harmon escaped from the institution sometime this morning." Hutch whirled around as he sensed the presence behind him. The receiver dropped from nerveless fingers when he saw the figure in the shadows. "Diana!" |
