| The Angel Hierarchy |
![]() |
| Do you wonder how the angels are regarded? It is believed that there is a hierarchy of angels in heaven. This hierarchy is based on the different functions and attributes of each angel. The hierarchy that I am displaying is one that is set by the philosopher known as Pseudo-Dionysius. Look at it as though it was a pyramid...and we start from the top, heading down. Seraphim: These angels are the closest to God. They contunually sing his praises. In the book of Isaiah, they are described as having six wings each. Cherubim: These angels have been represented as bizarre winged angels to chubby winged children. They are also known as cherubs. Thrones: Thrones are said to take the form of fiery wheels covered with open eyes. Dominions (Dominations): Said to be the oldest angels. They are supposed to supervise the angels that are below them. Virtues (Authorities): These angels work the miracles on Earth and serve as guardian angels. Powers: The Powers come down on evil. They are to keep demons, devils, and evil spirits at bay. Principalitites: Protect cities and nations as well as the leaders of religious faiths on Earth. Archangels: These are the messenger angels. They are the ones who appear to those and tell them of God's decrees. Angels: Angels work most closely with the ordinary human beings. |
