Although the Middle-English in the novel was, often, very hard to understand, on the whole, I'd have to say that I enjoyed reading it. The story itself was very interesting. Once I got used to the middle-English, I didn't want to put the book down. It really kept my attention. It was very well written, and the story was, for the most part, easy to follow.
The
ending was very clever. Although I had suspected that the words of the
three apparitions would somehow work against Macbeth, I could not figure
out how.
I
really enjoyed watching Macbeth's confidence slowly begin to crumble, beginning
with the rebellious army's usage of branches from Birnam Woods to camouflage
their approach to Macbeth's castle. I never would have thought of that!
I also thought it was very clever how it turned out that Macduff was not
"of woman born," and that Macbeth really DID have reason to fear Macduff.
I
also felt the ending to the book was very appropriate, as Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth both got exactly what they deserved. In addition, I liked
how the reader could close the book assured that Scotland was, once again,
in the hands of a worthy and amiable king.
