It took a half hour of driving around but somehow she managed to find a CD store and bought Nick his gift. Making a frantic beeline to the park, getting lost twice and trying to wrap the gift at every red light she managed to get to the park to see Nick waiting on a bench.
“Hi Nick!” She went over to hug him
“Piggy” he smiled and they both sat down
Nick opened his mouth to say something when a tall blonde walked up to Nick, “Nicky! You said you were meeting a friend.”
“I thought you were going to wait in the car, where it was warm.” He then turned to Anastasia, “This is Mandy.”
“His GIRLFRIEND.”
“Nice to meet you.”
Mandy ignored this and pointed to her necklace, despite the chilly weather she was wearing a tank top with a plunging neckline and frankly she looked like she should be standing on a street corner in a red dress, if you get my drift, “Nicky, here, gave me this necklace.”
“It’s beautiful…”
“I know.” She sat down next to Nick and hugged his arm, “I just love Nicky.”
Anastasia raised her eyebrow and then gave Nick her gift.
“I wonder what this is?” he joked and she laughed he opened it and laughed again, “Where did you find a store open?”
“How do you know I didn’t buy that a while ago?” she smirked
He handed her his gift, “Be careful it’s heavy.”
“Nice wrapping job.”
“It’s not easy to wrap when you are on the phone!” he defended himself
“Nicky! I’m cold.” Mandy whined
“Then go in the car,” his eyes never leaving Anastasia’s face waiting for a reaction
She opened the box and let out a gasp, “Oh my…”
“Do you like it?”
She turned towards him with grin on her face, “Oh Nick, it’s beautiful! Thank you!” she shook it and watched as snow descended onto the scene.
“I saw it and immediately thought of you.”
“Thank you!” she repeated and gave him a hug
“Listen…” he winded up the globe and smiled
“Nicky…”a high pitched whine interrupted
“Mandy, just go to the car.” She got up giving Anastasia a dirty look and stomped away.
“Sorry about her she can be like that.”
Anastasia nodded at the apology and listened to the song tinkle on. “Nick I can’t believe this thanks so much.” Giving him another hug she heard a horn honking in the distance and saw Mandy in the car.
Nick waved her away, “So do you want to get together tomorrow or later on in the week.”
“I’d love that…” she was interrupted by her phone, “Uhh hold on.”
“Hello?”
“Annie! Hurry!” Jessee’s voice was hysterical and she heard pure chaos in the background
“What’s wrong?!” she glanced at Nick who was finding the wrapping paper quite amusing
“Caitlin…Caitlin’s going into labor!”
“Oh my god!” Nick now alert gave Anastasia a worried look
“We are on the way out the door to the hospital, Anne and Joe are going to come behind us with the kids.” In the background, she heard Caitlin screaming in pain something about just kill her now, all the kids were crying, Anne was trying to calm them down and Joe was saying something about being in Cancun.
“I’ll meet you at the hospital.”
“Thanks.”
“Tell Caitlin to hang on!”
She hung up and Nick was standing there with a scared look on his face, “What’s wrong, what’s going on?” he questioned
She had her belongings in her hand already and was making her way to her car, “My sister in law just went into labor, how do I get to the hospital?”
“Go, left at the and then, just go…wait I’ll go with you, I’ll drive.” He offered
“Oh thank god! This is my first time in Florida I already got lost twice trying to get your present….I mean…” she faltered
He smirked, “I knew it! Here, let me go tell Mandy.”
A moment later he was climbing to the car with a frown on his face, “She wasn’t too happy…but she’ll get over it.” Anastasia watched as Nick’s car backed up scarcely missing her own car and sped off with a very angry blonde at the wheel.
“God she’s a worse driver than me!”
