Pizza Crust, Fros and E-Bay

The next morning Anastasia awoke to the sound of the phone ringing. Groaning she rolled over, “Uhh…who in there right mind would be calling this early in the morning?” Falling out of her bed in a failed attempt to pick up the phone, she sighed reaching up and cursed as the phone fell into her lap “What do you want?!” She yelled mentally noting to herself that if it was another telemarketer she would put his head on a stick. But instead she heard laughing from the other end.

                  “Piggy?”

“Nick?” her tone softened

“You always that pleasant on the phone?”

“Well you have some nerve waking me up this early in the morning, do you have any idea what time it is?”

“It’s one in the afternoon.”

Looking up at her clock radio she discovered indeed it was “Heehee…oh..opps.”

                  “Late night?” he suggested

“Yeah…” she sighed and he laughed, “I mean no! You’re disgusting…” her voice trailed off

“Well I was wondering, if you haven’t eaten yet…which I’m assuming you haven’t. If you’d like to have a late lunch with me.”

“I’d love to, where? But you’ll have to give me a while, I have to freshen up.”

“Please, do.” Without waiting for a reply he went on, “ I was thinking somewhere out of the way, where I won’t be mobbed by fans.”

There was silence on the other end for a moment before she spoke, “What about…I know this little pizza place down on Ark road, but it serves other stuff besides pizza like spaghetti in case you don’t want that.”

“Sounds good, where is it again?”

“Ark Road? Right by ‘Fish and Feathers’ the pet store, you can’t miss it just look for the giant goldfish bowl.”

“Ohhh… the giant fish bowl why didn’t you just say so?”

She smiled, “Well could you give me like 45 minutes? I need to get dressed.”

“Your not dressed?” Nick asked and she could almost see the look he had on his face.

                  “Goodbye Nick.”

“Bye” he laughed and hung up.

“Uhhh…I forgot how annoying that boy could be…” she spoke to know one in particular as she collected herself and got ready.

30 minutes later:

“Where’s my shoe?” She scrambled around her small apartment looking for her left sneaker, “I can’t believe this! Why do I always lose things?” Throwing some clothing over her shoulder and shuffling through some empty Chinese Food containers she couldn’t seem to locate the missing item. “Ahh!” she crashed down over the cat, who ran underneath the sofa for safety, “Stupid cat! Ahha! Gottcha.” Snatching her left shoe she smiled with satisfactory, “Now where’s the other one? Oh there.” Retrieving her other shoe from the coffee table she glanced at her watch, “Shoot! I have 5 minutes, why can’t I ever be on time?” Grabbing her car keys she left her apartment and a very startled Jinx behind her.

“Yes mom, Anastasia…” Nick talked into his cell phone keeping his eye out for the “Big Fish Bowl” that he should have been soon seeing.” No, it’s not a date!” He sighed his mother could be so annoying sometimes, “Remember Mandy? My girlfriend, I know you don’t like her much but that’s not going…uh huh, I know your looking out…ok yes I’m sorry, I won’t yell like that again. Ok, look…uh huh, well mom I’ve got to go.” He said pulling into the parking lot next to the pet store, “Ok, love you too. Say hi to dad. Ok bye.”

He sighed looking at the clock “Great 10 minutes late.” He mumbled to himself as he got out of the car, just as he stepped out a car came around the corner, the women driving it must have been crazy for she sped into the parking space right next to him nearly knocking him over.

“Jeez lady… watch it!” he yelled hitting the hood of her car. The woman rushed out, “Ohh I’m so sorry, I’m late for…Nick?” Nick looked up

“Anastasia, I know you are mad that I woke you up already but I don’t think you want a couple thousand screaming girls to hunt you down when they found out a Backstreet Boy has been killed by road rage.”

She laughed, “Sorry, I just couldn’t find my shoe and I didn’t want to be late.”

“Excuses, Excuses,” he smiled, “Shall we?” he stuck out his arm and she took it.

After settling inside and ordering Nick tapped his fork against the base of his glass restlessly, “So….”

“So…”

“How’s Adam?” He asked raising his eyebrow, “You didn’t mention him before.”

                  “He’s fine.”

“How long have you two been going out?”

“So interested in Adam, no ‘hi, how are you?’ Just ‘How’s Adam’”

He smiled slightly embarrassed, “Well…” he searched his brain looking for an excuse.

“2 ½ years.” She answered, “ Now dear Nicky, what about you? Who’s the love of your life?”

“Well, I’ve been sort of seeing this girl.”

“This girl?” It was her turn to raise her eyebrow

He laughed slightly, “Yeah, her name is Mandy, but it’s nothing serious. Mom doesn’t like her much.” He confessed

                  “Why?”

“I don’t know, she’s nice and all but Mom says she’s just after my money and she’ll,” He made his voice real high, “she’ll break my heart.”

Anastasia nodded sympathetically, “It must be hard to deal with that, distinguishing your real friends from the ones who only like you for Backstreet.”

He nodded, “It is.” There was silence for a moment; the only sound was Nick tapping his fork against that glass.

“Stop it!” Anastasia reached over to stop his hand

“Ohhh does that annoy you, does that annoy you Miss Piggy?” He smirked before tapping the base of his glass nonstop.

“Uhh!” She leaned back and covered her ears, “I swear I think you were better when you where 6.”

He stopped and laughed she smiled as well but soon broke out with him as there pizza arrived.

Nick grabbed the last piece of pizza and stuffed it in his mouth, “Oh I’m sorry did you want this?” He asked between chews

“Eww…not anymore…ok, ok I’ve got one Eminem or that guy from N’Sync… with the hair?”

“Chris?”

“Yeah”

“He cut that ya know.”

“He did? Took him long enough, now if we can get that Justin guy to cut that fro, they’d be half way decent looking.”

“Oh I know, if he shaved his head I bet the could make a wig that even Lou Pearlman could fit.”

She laughed, “Yeah, but if you think about it he really is good looking.”

“Who Lou or Justin?”

“Justin, you idiot!” She slapped him playfully, “He’s pretty decent.”

“Better than me?” Nick asked innocently batting his eyelashes

“Ummm…pretty much.” With that Nick threw his pizza crust at her landing in her hair.

“Ah!” She jumped startled, “Eww…get it off.” She brushed her hair knocking out the crust on to the table.

“Better be careful with that, Piggy, you could sell that on E-bay and make a fortune.”

“Yeah you wish,” she said getting up to pay, “maybe if you were Justin.”
