Greek Regionals Report

hey everyone its me Nold on irc (bill fatouros irl) and this is my report from 
my regionals where i q'd despite my poor 5-2 performance heh. i knew that all it 
would take was 5-2 because 25-30 people were gonna q and there were like 130 
players at the site so yeah anyways here goes
since i was running a qualifier the other night  i thought maybe i wouldnt have 
time to sleep but luckily there werent many delays and it ended at around 1:30 
am my time so i got my 6 hours of sleeping which is pretty enough. i got to the 
site at 9:20 am or so with the rest of the local team and everyone else was 
already there so i quickly found as many of  the cards i needed as i could 
(didnt find misdirections unfortunately :/ ) and made my decklist. here's the 
deck i played with

since there were a LOT of kids there (by kids i mean bad players i was one of 
the 3-5 youngest people there) i was hoping that round 1 i could get a "bye"

Round 1 vs mono white
...that match was a nightmare
im just gonna list some of his maindeck: 4 obsidian acolyte 4 voice of all 4 
distorting lens 4 story circle
all my removal spells were useless because of lens he gave pro black to 
everything and he beat me with angels after i ran out of counters..i had to 
counter every creature with lens on the table.
in game 2 i did have a chance due to massacre killing both voice of all and 
obsidian acolyte but i didnt draw any in the 25 cards i went through. double 
brainstorm double fof gave me nothing.

so what a nice way to start 0-1 0-2

Round 2 vs hiimabaddeck
hehe the kid was playing caowrdice.dec with like tidal visionaries jolting 
merfolks and metathran transports or however thats called. does it really 
matter? there's my bye. i think game 1 i won with a briberied air elemental and 
i was at 2 life because i was mana screwed but game 2 was a joke i just cast a 
wumpus and won with it

1-1 2-2 ok gotta  4-1 now

Round 3 vs white weenie
hehe he wasnt even playing rebels, in game 1 my spitters and wumpus kill all his 
creatures and him afterwards while in game 2 they were aided to that cause by 
massacres. his light of days just got recoiled but i woulda won with idol 
anyways.

2-1 4-2

Round 4 vs u/b
i think oh shit not a mirror :( but it turns out that he wasnt playing any 
counterspells!!!!! so yeah control  with permisiion always beats control w/o 
permission :( basically all he did was try to kill me with random scutas but 
they got recoiled around :) and he ran cavern harpys which my wumpus and spitter 
laugh at. easy 2-0.

3-1 6-2

finally a break!!!!!!! i was like dead hungry so i ate half of mcdonalds :( that 
was a good boost

round 5 vs fires
heh finally some competition. i was vs this guy who i totally and completely 
hate. he thinks he's like the best and everyone was saying he would beat me (his 
friends etc). but they forgot to realise he was playing fires and i was playing 
u/b...in game 1 where i usually lose he got mana flooded and he wasnt running 
rages maindeck which is kinda a good decision since EVERYONE was packing 
misdirections. he didnt see any in game 1 so he was doubtful but i was like "oh 
yah you can bring in all the rages you want i just love misdirecting them" so he 
didnt sb them in while i run 0 misdirections :) i loved that. game 2 i didnt 
draw any perish so i lost to his 2 blastoderms...when i lost next card was 
perish. game 3 was LONG. i sb'ed in my tsabo's decree as the only way to stop 
kavu chameleon and it worked :) turn 6 i killed 2 chameleons and 1 flametongue 
from his hand. i kept drawing land afterwards so it stalled a bit but i won in 
the long run i just killed everything he cast till i got a wumpus and killed him 
too

4-1 8-3 damn i loved that :)

roud 6 vs counterrebel
talk about competition here...a not so good matchup and my opponent is 
considerably the best greek player there is..in game 1 it went back and forth i 
managed to get wumpus in play amd kill of his rebels at some times but he just 
had more..it was very close in general. he won in 45 mins. game 2 i  sb in my 
massacres/decree/disrupts and hope i can beat him soon. i did a horrible mistake 
:( i had killed almost all his rebels. we were into 3 turns. i had wumpus, he 
was at 5 life i was at 6. i had 5 black mana in play but one was a underground 
river. i attacked hoping to end it there but he exiled my wumpus and he absorbed 
my undermine on the exile :((((( if i had just waited one turn i would've won. 
sigh... oh well

4-2 8-4 ok now its one round left i just have to win this one to q..or maybe 
not?

round 7 vs a friend of mine playing mono white techish control
well my deck basically owned his cause i was lucky. in game 1 he didnt have 
enough hate to stop the beats but like in game 2 i got out a millstone and 
milled 5 disenchants out of his library :( so i won with the stone while he had 
like all the anti creature hate out, crackdown, circle, light of day. he had 3 
crusade by the end but i had drawn most of my deck and had enough counters and 
snuff outs to finish him off. i thought that we wouldnt q if we  id'ed so i 
declined but as i found out afterwards we would've :( so it sucked how i left my 
friend out of nationals because i was stupid

5-2 10-4 q'ing

i was like 21st seed but still q'd oh well i came home at 8 pm and barely missed 
sunday's qualifier :( now props and slops

better if i had found all the cards
