Data compression is when a file is reduced in size so that it
takes up less bits/bytes. This is handy for users who run on a slow
connection.
Once the file is finished downloading the files have to be decompressed 
and this is done by using programs such as winzip or winrar. There is no 
difference in the file after it has been decompressed compaired to when it
started.
