| Cindy looked around her classroom. She was very bored from her teacher, Mr. Winklebird's, lecture. Looking around the classroom Cindy saw the same things she saw everyday. The chalkboard in front of her had the letters of the alphabet above it. A number line went all around the classroom. There was also the helper list on the backpack and coat rack. It listed who would be line leaders for the week. Cindy was 8 years old. She had shoulder length blonde hair that was pulled back with a headband. Her eyes were an emerald green. She was also wearing a colorful dress with cats all over it. She started working on her spelling after Mr. Winklebird was done talking. She had to define the words today since it was the beginning of the week. She was on the word airplane. Thats what my mom and dad will ride in today for their business trip! She thought to herself. Cindy started memorizing it as fast as she could. Airplan, she said to herself, a-i-r-p-l-a-n-e. Cindy looked at her book to see if she was right. She praised herself seeing that she had spelled it perfectly. The office phone rang. Cindy could hear it because her classroom was right by the office. She had gotten used to this so she didn't think twice about it. On the second ring the phone stopped ringing. Cindy knew that either the person hung up, or that the person in the office had picked the phone up. * * * At the Angels Helping People Department J.D. was talking to Tabitha quickly. "Okay Tabitha, you have another assignment," J.D. said. "Really?" Tabitha asked, "What is it?" "I can't tell you yet," J.D. Said. Suddenly Jacob appeared by J.D. "Why can't you send the parents?" Jacob asked, "You sent me and Tabitha and Vicky after we died to people who knew us." "This time it's different." Said J.D. "How?" asked Tabitha, having a pretty good idea of her quest by now. "First off," J.D. answered, "They didn't get chosen for this assignment. Second, the child is a lot younger. Third, the child seeing the parents again, might make her think they aren't really dead." "How did you know none of that would happen with us?" Jacob asked interestingly. "Because," J.D. answered, "Parents are different then friends." "How?" asked Jacob and Tabitha in unison. "Just trust me on this. There is no way to tell you howm especially since you don't know what it's like." "Okay," said Jacob. Then he disappeared. * * * Cindy looked up ten minutes later hearing a knock on the classroom door. "Come in," Mr. Winklebird yelled. The door opened and Cindy saw that the knocker was Mrs. Jesse, the school counselor. "Can I talk to Cindy for a while?" She asked looking worried. "Why certainly." Mr. Winklebird said. He looked worried also. Cindy got up worried wondering what she did that the counselor needed to talk to her about. Maybe it's just about how good my grades are. Maybe I can be put in the after school program for smart kids. She thought to herself. With this ine her hopes she reluctantly followed her counselor down the hall to her office. |
