She let out a long sigh as she leaned her cheek to rest on the palm of her hand. Longingly, she looked up from the book she had been studying, and gazed out the window. It was a beautiful spring day outside. The sun was showering all the flowers with its warm rays, and the tall palm trees swayed in the gentle breeze.

Trailing her fingers across the smooth surface of the large, mahogany desk, her hand came to rest on a simple, gold picture frame. She languidly traced the metallic frame that was cool beneath her fingertips. The corners of her mouth turned up at the familiar face that smiled back at her. She followed the angled lines of his chiseled face, her finger gliding down the gentle slope of his nose, finally coming to rest on his strong chin. Closing her eyes, she remembered the feel of his arms around her waist, the feel of his soft breath against her cheek. Touching her lips, she recalled the delicate nature of his kiss.

Joe.

Jess missed him. She missed the way he laughed, the way his face contorted in frustration when she ruffled his hair. Everything. She missed everything.

Even London.

She missed the rain. That soft pitter-patter it made against the pavement. The way the wet, sticky air felt against her face as she sloshed through the puddles that had formed at the end of her driveway. The people waiting for a taxicab holding the daily paper above their heads in attempt to ward off the down pour. Jess could almost spell the fresh air that came after the storm had passed.

She glanced at the forgotten book laying open on her desk. She really should be revising for her exams. With another quick glance at the photograph, she grabbed it, bringing it to her chest and close to her heart. Breathing in a deep breath and closing her eyes, she wished he were there; just as she had wished the day before, and everyday before that. The summertime seemed ages away. Still holding the picture close, she stroked the frame's velvet back, as if to summon forth any memory she had of the young man.

"Would you like me to leave you two alone, then?" Someone asked from behind her.

Jess' heart sped up as she recognized the sound of the masculine voice. In disbelief, she turned slowly in her chair to face the source of the utterance. Leaning his slender form casually against the doorway, stood Joe.

With a squeal of delight, Jess launched herself at the Irishman, and straight into his arms. Gracefully spinning her around, Joe laughed happily as he held Jess for the first time in months. When they had finally slowed to a stop, Jess brought her arms up to wrap around his neck. Leaning down, Joe caught her lips in a slow, tentative kiss.

She smiled as she pulled back, "I've missed you."

End.
