SINGAPORE
"To some it has all the ambience of a supermarket checkout lane. It has even been described as a Californian resort-town run by Mormons. It has frequently been dubbed sterile and dull - a report in The Economist judged Singapore to be the most boring city in the world and for those who fail to venture beyond the plazas that line Orchard Road, or spend their three and half days on coach trips to the ersatz cultural extravaganzas, this is not surprising. Butr there is a cultural  and architectural heritage in Singapore beyond the one which the government tries so hard to manufacture. Despite its brash consumerism and toytown mentality, Singapore is certainly not without its charm.
For those stopping over in Singapore for just a few days - en route, as most of the island's tourists are, to somewhere elses- there are several key sights not to be missed. Many who visit however, consider that it is far more important to enjoy the food. The island has an unparalleled variety of restaurants to suit every palate and wallet."
