| There may be times when you find it necessary to do a healing with someone seated in a chair. Often the elderly find this more comfortable as well as people with back problems, heavily pregnant women, people who have had certain types of surgery, people with neck or shoulder problems, those with sciatica or some other type of problem which prevents them being comfortable in a lying down position for a long period of time. There are many people who find the seated position easier and more manageable in terms of pain and comfort levels. Other situations that you may need to adapt to a seated position is perhaps in an emergency, or when you are out of your healing room and do not have anything but a chair to use. You may need to put your hands on in the park, in a coffee shop, in someone elses house etc...so have hands will travel!! and adapt to your environment and situation. So you, the healer, need to be adaptable and assess the situation and the person needing healing. The hand positions as expplained in earlier sections for a full body Reiki, can be adapted easily to a seated person. It is also important to realise that someone who needs to sit for a healing, may not be able to sit and be still for a long period of time so you need to think about shortening the healing time and how you are going to place your hands for maximum healing. Many may choose to place hands on an injury or surgery site. I like to place my hands on their shoulders, allowing the energy to flow and be directed to where it is needed most. I also like to place my hands in various positions on the head which is easily reachable in a seated position. (*refer to photos) Sometimes I will simply stand with my hands on the head or shoulders for 15 to 20 minutes and allow the energy to flow through me and into their body. Here are some more suggestions. Use them as a guideline only and always go by your inner guidance and intuition. |

| Position one : when you are sure the person is seated comfortably, place your hands on their shoulders....... Position two : move your hands to the ears....... Position three : place one hand at the back of the head and the other over the crown chakra.....or alternatively, the third eye area... Position four : move to the side and place one hand at the back of the base of the neck and the other hand over the heart chakra. Position five : move down to the solar chakra and the sacral chakra. * Please note that the base chakra may be difficult to reach in a seated position so it may be best to direct energy down towards it. If you have time you may place one hand on the shoulder and one on the elbow, moving down to elbow and wrist, then wrist and hand. You may choose to do this with the legs but make sure you are comfortable bending down to these positions. |
