A few easy precautions can prevent you from becomng a vampire and spreading the ghastly vampire virus.
That's the good news from Dr. Franz Cudja, a Slovakian vampire hunter who has devoted more than 30 years to tracking down and exterminating the malignant undead.
" Most modern vampires have become more sophisticated, and prayer, exorcism and the cross or other religious icons can no longer be counted on to hold them at bay," Dr. Cudja confided to 'The Undead Quarterly'.
Even garlic is a less effective protection than it was 50 years ago, especially when dealing with a vampire of Italian or Korean extraction."
Instead of cowering in your home if you belive you're being stalked, Dr. Cudja says to take the offensive and go after the vampire when he's at his weakest- on a sunlit midday.
If you believe you know who the vampire is or where he's buried, the good, old fashioned method of digging him up, staking his heart, then dutting off his head and placing it between his knees is the best approach, he says.
And some vampire hunters prefer to cut out the heart, burn it and scatter the ashes.
If those approaches are too bloody for you, most vampires can be confined by nailing their clothes to the coffin so that they are unable ot rise when awakening at sundown.
But Dr. Cudja cautions to avoid spiking clothes too close to the mouth or hands because they are likely to remove the nails with their powerful fangs or claw them loose with their hands.
When dealing with vampires who are strangers to you or whose lairs are unknown, Dr. Cudja recomends sticking to old fashioned protections.
Like evil witches, even the most modern vampires are obsessed with counting, so spread salt, millet, or poppy seeds around doors, windows, and beds are good ways to keep them busy until dawn, he says.
Dr. Cudja says the best way to ensure that you don't join the ranks of the undead is to live a moral life.
Vampires are repulsed by righteous men and women. But even the most innocent actions can make some especially vulnerable to a vampire attack. Whatever you do, never ever eat the meat of a sheep that's been killed by a wolf. If you violate that ban, you are almost certain to be attacked by a vampire.
