Barbarosa is the current emperor. He is in love with Windy, though many think it is because she resembles Barbarosa's dead wife, Claudia. Barbarosa is a fierce warrior, but when he lets Windy manipulate him, things can turn bad for his enemies.
Cleo, Joins automatically after the Hero and Teo return from the castle in Gregminster
Cleo is one of Teo McDohl's bodyguards and the Hero's protector. She joins the Hero on many of his journeys and usually stays on his side of arguments. Later in the game, however, Cleo becomes less of a main character.
Flik, Joins automatically at Toran castle after the defeat of Kwanda Rosman
Flik is one of the veteran members of the Liberation Army. He specialises in the Thunder rune and at swordsmanship, he can't be beat. He usually thinks of himself as a leader, though the true leader of the Liberation Army is his lover, Odessa.
Gremio, Joins automatically after the Hero and Teo return from the castle in Gregminster
Gremio and the Hero have been friends for years, and have become like brothers. Gremio is often over-protective of the Hero and usually follows along to protect him in his journeys. Gremio is often outspoken by the likes of Viktor and wants to keep the McDohl name proud.
The Hero
Son of Teo McDohl and a mother he never knew, the Hero must take orders from a man named Commander Kraize. When Ted attacks Windy, the group become labelled as fugitives. The Hero soon accepts responsibility to be the new leader of the Liberation Army.
Humphrey, Joins automatically at Toran castle after the defeat of Kwanda Rosman
A veteran member of the Liberation Army. Humphrey is usually silent. When he talks it is usually a bunch of small words with some silence in between. Humphrey has some ties with the Dragon Knight leader, Joshua, and was a fighter in the infamous war of Kalekka.
Kasumi, Joins automatically after the defeat of Milich Oppenheimer
A young, female ninja, who is the love interest for the hero. She specialises in the Shrike rune and is very quick. She is often asked to scout areas quickly.
Kwanda Rosman, Joins after his defeat at Pannu Yakuta if you spare him
One of the five imperial generals, Kwanda was tricked into taking a black rune from Windy that gave him power over beasts. With this power, he controlled the Kobolds and burned down the elf village with a device called the burning mirror.
Leknaat the Seer
Leknaat is a clairvoyant who lives with her apprentice, Luc, on a lonely island. She is owner of the Gate rune, which her sister, Windy also possesses.
Lepant, Joins in Kouan after you steal his sword, Kirinji
Lepant is a fighter and an old friend of Mathiu. Lepant lives in Kouan with his wife, Eileen and his servant, Giovanni. He also has a son named Sheena.
Liukan, Joins after you free him from prison
Lepant is an old doctor who is the only hope of countering Milich's poison roses. When the Hero's party arrives at his hideaway, the reluctant man is kidnapped by Milich and placed in jail. He has to be sprung out of the Liberation Army will face doom.
Mathiu, Joins in Seika
Mathiu is the brother of Odessa and an old war veteran. When confronted by the Hero, Mathiu says he hates fighting, but becomes the Liberation Army's military strategist.
Milich Oppenheimer, Joins at Scarleticia after you spare his life
Also taken advantage of by Windy, this imperial general used poison to defeat the Liberation Army in battle. After the rune was destroyed, Milich regained his senses, and the towns he had taken over were freed.
Pahn, Joins automatically after the Hero and Teo return from the castle in Gregminster
Pahn is Teo's bodyguard and guardian of the hero. He only thinks of food and fighting, and often joins the Hero on his journeys. Pahn uses the Boar rune effectively.
Sanchez
One of the older members of the Liberation Army, Sanchez is always there, though he can't fight and nobody really knows a great deal about him.
Ted
The Hero's best friend Ted is excitable and likes to follow the Hero anywhere, even if danger is involved. He hides a secret though, he holds the cursed rune, Soul Eater, and is over 300 years old!
Teo McDohl
The Hero's father, and the supposedly greatest of the five imperial generals. He leaves one day to go north and leaves his son in the hands of Kraize.
Viktor, joins in Gregminster after the escape from the McDohl estate
Viktor is a cunning member of the Liberation Army. he is often getting into trouble and his attitude often brings danger. He follows the Hero to far away lands.
Windy
Windy is the Gregminster court magician, whose beauty is only on the outside. She holds mysterious power, and nobody knows much about her except her sister, Leknaat. Windy is the holder of the Gate rune.
