One day, a young boy meets a strange girl that he's never seen before in his small hometown. Her name is Lufia, and the two quickly become good friends. When the boy grows up, he leaves quickly on a quest, and Lufia tags along. But in their journey they run into Gades, one of the four Sinistrals. Seeing that the boy is a descendent of the great hero, Maxim, he defeats the boy and Lufia at once, However, the boy survives the assault and escapes, soon bringing up the power to confront Gades and the other three Sinistrals.
