An overview of the history of The Velde Protectorate
The years given are by Imperial standard for ease of reference.
1179: The Gvulldon family via their own mercenary company under the employ of the Zhodani noblity. Their job during this time period is security for the Velde shipyards.
1180: Due to the Gvulldon families natural immunity to telepathic probing, they siege control of the shipyards and turn the weapons captured upon the Zhodani. The rebellious faction quickly gains popular support and the Zhodani garrison is quickly driven from Velde. The Gvulldon family forms a constituional monarcy and the ships they capture form the origins of the Velde navy.
1181 to 1190: During this time period, the Zhodani are systematically driven from what will later become the Velde Protectorate. At least one major incursion by marauders operating out of the Vargr Extants is repelled by the Protectorate Navy. Also during this time the Traveller's Aid Society opens offices on each planet.
1190 to 1220: In spite of sporatic incursions by the forces of the Zhodani Consulate, the Protectorate undergoes a period of impressive growth and expansion. The Protectorate beings to place primary efforts on education, bio sciences, military production, and intelligence gathering.
1206: Research and Development of the Zebra class missle begins. Production on all military vessels is suspended based on this new ship design and philosophy. Note that no additional patrol cruisers or corsairs are produced in favor of newer designs.
1208: The Siege of Likins. Early in 1208, an invasion force of the Zhodani Consulate jumps into and lays siege upon the world of Likins. Protectorate forces are rapidly overwhelmed and a bitter guerilla war prevents the Zhodani from expanding outward. The Protectorate, alerted by an escaped naval vessel, gathers every ship that it can. The Protectorate navy at this time consists primarily of patrol cruisers and corsairs. In the end, the Zhodani forces are destroyed completely but the Protectorate suffers close to ninety percent casualties.
1210: The Ancara System Defense Boat, the Peregrine Courier, and the Aleska Destroyer enter service.
1215: The first Dreadnought, the Celina enters service. System Defense Boat Carriers and Cruisers also enter service at this time.
