As Val
would say, Game day, Game 1:
Wednesday,
September 3, 2003 at 9:00pm versus the Flyers. The Lightning season
started with a bang,
suddenly
without much warning, we had to play our first game only a couple of days after
the long weekend.
Would we be
ready after our long layoff since April 30, 2003 in the First Division finals
when we lost to the
Flyers who
went on to be ASHL Nationals Champions (oh what could have been!)?
Despite 8
Rinks attempts at more paperwork than the BCAHA, we still managed to get a
full roster of players out,
including
two newcomers, Tania and Irena, neither of which stuck around long enough for
us to learn their
last names
(was is something Marlene said?). The Flyers, who we'll call the
perpetual hockey team,
as most of their
players skate year round, opened their goal account first as they zigged and
zagged around us,
and then they
got another one on the same shift, a floater from the blue line, yes, a floater
from the blue line.
But, we got one back thanks to Michelle and
Jenn (the new mom line). We just couldn't hold the Flyers back
though as
they stormed and blitzed (get it) further ahead with two more goals for a final
victory of 4-1.
But, the
four fans that were watching (thanks Rebels) actually said that we played
pretty well, as there was
some nice
passing and shots. Now, if only Liz would have kept the goals out of our
net, oops,
we can't blame this one on her. Stay tuned for our next update.
