Game Day, Game 8: Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at 6:30 pm Lightning vs. Katz
You should see the number of names on the pre-printed roster that the
ASHL gives to the teams to sign before each game ... there are so many many many many
... but who will show up? We had 6 forwards and 3 defence, oh yeah, and 1 goalie,
good old Walter, who is so tired from carrying this team .... We were in the dressing
room in early, but for whatever reason, we didn't get onto the ice until there was only
about 2 minutes to warm up. That didn't stop us this time though, we managed to score
in the first minute of the game, and then we got another goal in the first period
on the patented Linda to Dickie one timer play ... well Wilke got in the way but that's OK)
for a 2-0 lead. Then, the wheels came off or should I say Liz's skates couldn't come off
because she had used green silly putty in her skates to do what exactly, we don't want
to know! The Katz tied it up with two goals. But, one of our rookies,
Maija the Finish Flash, scored the game winner on a rebound in the crease after
another rookie, Petra, the Slovakian Streak, had dipsied and doodled past most of the
other team andour players as well. One final goal, which was kinda lucky, but we'll
take it, and we had a 4-2 hard fought victory. Little did we know that
Liz sits in her crease and wonders what is so different about the women's game from the
men's, and she came up with "in women's hockey everyone back hecks, but in men's hockey,
they just skate around lazy when they lose the puck". That is a compliment I think.
Well, enough about the game, nope one more comment, Natalie, call the cops, you were
robbed! After the game, Petra gave us all some delicious baking scones the size of
basketballs, and cinnamon buns with an amazing flavour) from where she has been working
while in Canada. It was her last game with us as she heads back home to Europe.
We will miss her but hopes she has some memories, and thank goodness she couldn't
understand everything we talked about in the dressing room. She did ask me especially
say goodbye and thank you to Marlene and Val.
That's it, until next time, Wednesday, November 5, 2003
(November? already, can you believe it?).
