Game Day,
Game 3: Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 7:15pm versus the Katz
The answer
is 11. After a two week layoff, we were back on the ice
again, but the same old story,
no defence,
except Calvin, as Val, Heidi, Leanna and even House! were all missing in
action.
So, Jenn
and Dickie (again) and the new girl Cobi volunteered. Cobi was supposed
to be out at
our last
game to replace the players we lost when Irena and Tania went
missing in action after the
first week
and so on and so on. This week, we did welcome Midder to
the team (well, she's not
really new
as she has made many guest appearances with the Lightning in tournaments at 8
Rinks
and
Whistler), and a belated welcome to another newcomer Maija, and Dickie
brought out a player
that she
said was from Holland (and I was wondering, do they play ice hockey there?),
and then we
find out
she is actually from Slovakia, thank goodness, didn't their men's team upset
someone at
the
Olympics? Things looked good for the other team as we had our normal
fantastic warmup.
So, the
Katz got on trackz by scoring in the first period, not much happened in the
second period,
well,
unless you counted how many times players fell down because of the chipped ice,
but then
we jolted
(get it) back in the third period to score three unanswered goals for a
3-1 victory.
Marlene
scored her first goal of the season on a rebound from her knees again
(Chad, is that why
you like
her?), and then Maija popped in her first goal in the First Division on a pass
from Petra,
the
Slovakian Streak, and then Linda M. scored her first and probably only goal of
the season on
a wrap
around because she can't shoot. The highlight of the night though was
Calvin breaking out
of our end,
making a pass (to the other team), and at the same time losing an edge to
go sliding
into the
boards by our bench while the other team's player skated in for a
breakaway. Good work,
Sue (did
you like the standing ovation we gave you when you finally showed up for the
game).
Next up are
the Burnaby Bandits at 9:30pm on Wednesday, October 1 ... let's not let em
steal
a game from
us, ahahhahaaah.
P.S.
Thanks to Chad for opening and closing the gate again.
