Game Day, Game 11: Lightning v. Renegades: Sunday, November 16, 2003
A Sunday game at 12:30pm seemed like a perfect time, but many of our regulars couldn’t
make it like Dickie, Michelle, Marlene, and Leanna, so we called out some spares, Heidi
(nickname to be decided), Suzie Speedy from last season, and Lori, who has decided that
she had so much fun she has become a regular full-time player (won’t our forwards who
always have to play defence be happy) … welcome to the Lightning. It was pretty much a
back and forth game … both teams created scoring chances, and we had new line
combinations, so it took us awhile to get clicking. Linda managed to score a goal from
further out than within a stick length from the crease, when she took a seeing eye wrist
shot to the bottom corner of the net through the defence screen from the high slot
(uhhhh, actually, she was just trying to get it the net before her line change) … but it was
another great pass up from Kobe on defence. The second goal was a nice drop pass
from Sue, our converted goalie and defence, who was playing forward, and then a shot
from Linda (outside the crease again) saved by the goalie, but Maija crashed the net and
pushed in the rebound. Now, 5,4,3,2,1, 0.5 seconds left, and the other team scored just
before the final buzzer … Liz was heard to be calling us names unfit for this family website.
If your wondering why I wrote so much details about these goals, it is only because I can
remember them … it was just yesterday afterall. Good work by everyone, the Renegades
always give us tough competition, and the games can go either way … speaking of which,
we play them again this Wednesday so everyone be ready.
