| In Time-The Best of R.E.M.-Saturday, December 27th, 2003 I got this for Christmas. It has caused me to go back and find all the old albums I used to listen to. Man I missed this stuff. R.E.M. kicks ass. I first got into them when the movie ID4 came out. In the first scene the background music is R.E.M.'s 'It's the End of the World as We Know It.' My dad got the album that contained that song. I listened to it, thought it was great, and started listening to his other R.E.M. albums. It starts with Man on the Moon. This song was kind of popular because of a movie with the same name. Then comes 'The Great Beyond', also a kickass song made for the soundtrack of the aforementioned movie. Track number three is called Bad Day. Most teenagers know them because this song, if they know them at all. It is their most recently released song. The ironic thing is, though most recently released, it was written in 1986. Next comes a song called 'What's the Frequency, Kenneth?' I'd never heard this song before. It's one of those songs that you don't much care for, but it's not so bad that you actually go out of your way to not hear it. Track number 6 is 'Losing My Religion.' Released in 1991, it's probably their most popular track. I, for one, think it's a great song. The next few songs I'd never heard of, for the most part. There's nothing special about them. 12 is 'The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite.' This song is cool. I heard it the first time I listened through the 'Automatic for the People' album. I love this song, it's probably the best one on the CD. up to track 16 are average songs, at which point the last three songs are, two of which are also in Automatic, get very light and soft and end the album gently. Overall, this CD is average. There are points where, unless you're really listening, you kind of zone out. It has all their big hits. Except one, which is, in my opinion, their biggest hit of all. Adding that song would be enough to bump its rating up a whole number. The song I am speaking of is, of course, 'The One I Love.' I'm listening to R.E.M.: Document as I type this. So I'll write a short review for that too. This album is very different from most of their other albums. Not a single song from this album is on their greatest hits album. It's alot... harder, for lack of better word. Of course, R.E.M. is not hard at all, but this is harder than anything else of theirs.
