| MY SUMMARY OF RENT Rent is about a group of friends who all have connections to eachother in some way, and each person has their own share of problems. Mark and Roger are roommates, struggling to write songs and produce films. Roger just found out that his girlfriend had AIDS and killed herself, and he now has AIDS, too. Mimi, who also has AIDS, is very interested in him, but he is afraid to love her. Mark, on the other hand, was just dumped by Maureen, who is protesting the high-tech cyber arts studio that Benny, Mimi's ex, wants to build. Benny, Mark and Roger's landlord, told them that if they can get Maureen to cancel her protest, then they can go without paying the rent. Benny, Mark, and Roger also used to live with Collins, who just met Angel, a drag queen, who forced Benny's akita, Evita, to kill itself. The play goes into the people's lives and people die and come close to dying, there are very touching scenes, funny scenes, and everything inbetween. |
