D.C.-TALK

Jesus Freak

Separated I cut myself clean

From a past that comes back in my darkest of dreams

Been apprehended by a spiritual force

And a grace that replaced all the me I've divorced

I saw a man with a tattoo on his big fat belly

It wiggled around like marmalade jelly

It took me a while to catch what it said

Cause I had to match the rhythm of his belly with my head

Jesus Saves is what it raved in a typical tattoo green

He stood on a box in the middle of the city

And claimed he had a dream

CHORUS:

What will people think when they hear that I'm a Jesus freak

What will people do when they find that it's true

I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak

Cause there ain't no disguising the truth

Kamikaze my death is gain

I've been marked by my maker a peculiar display

The high and lofty they see me as weak

Cause I won't live and die for the power they seek

There was a man from the desert with naps in his head

The sand that he walked was also his bed

The words that he spoke made the people assume

There wasn't too much left in the upper room

With skins on his back and hair on his face

they tought he was strange by the locusts he ate

The Pharisee's tripped when they heard him speak

Until the king took the head of this Jesus freak

(Chorus)

People say I'm strange does it make me a stranger

That my best friend was born in a manger

People say I'm strange does it make me a stranger

That my best friend was born in a manger

(Chorus 2x)

What will people think

(What will people think)

What will people do

(What will people do)

I don't really care

(What else can I say)

There ain't no disguising the truth

(Jesus is the way)

Colored People

Pardon me, your epidermis is showing, mister

I couldn't help but note your shade of melanin

I tip my hat to the colourful arrangement

Cause I see the beauty in the tones of our skin

We've gotta come together and thank the maker of us all

CHORUS:

We're colored people, and we live in a tainted place

We're colored people, and they call us the human race

We've got a history so full of mistakes

And we are colored people who depend on a Holy Grace

A piece of canvas is only the beginning

It takes on character with every loving stroke

This thing of beauty is the passion of an artist's heart

By God's design, we are a skin kaleidoscope

We gotta come together, aren't we all human after all?

(Chorus)

Ignorance has wronged some races

And vengeance is the Lord's

If we aspire to share this space

Repentance is the cure

Well, just a day in the shoes of a color blind man

Should make it easy for you to see

That these diverse tones do more than cover our bones

As a part of our anatomy

(Chorus)

In The Light

I keep trying to find a life

On my own, apart from you

I am the king of excuses

I've got one for every selfish thing I do

CHORUS:

What's going on inside of me? I despise my own behavior

This is only serves to confirm my suspicions,

that I'm still a man in need of a savior

I wanna be in the Light as You are in the Light

I wanna shine like the stars in the heavens.

Oh Lord be my Light and be my salvation

'Cause all I want is to be in the Light,

all I want is to be in the Light

The disease of self runs through my blood

It's a cancer fatal to my soul

Every attempt on my behalf has failed

To bring this sickness under control

(Chorus)

Honesty becomes me (There's nothing left to lose)

The secrets that did run me (In Your Presence are defused)

Pride has no position (And riches have no worth)

The fame that once did cover me (Has been sentenced to this earth)

Has been sentenced to this earth

(Chorus)

Wanna Be Loved

A rainy Monday afternoon

There's a funk over the city

Everybody's movin' to a different tune

Some are weak

And some are strong

And some are sittin' pretty

Then there's others who are barely hangin' on

It's no easy situation

People livin' in their separate worlds

But one thing that we've all got in common is

We all wanna be loved

We all want just a little respect

We all wanna be loved

Tell me what's wrong with that

I've never heard a dying soul

Wish that he had taken

More time on his portfolio

I swear, I've never heard a Mama say

Should've never had that baby

As a Doctor holds her newborn on display

It's the heavenly prescription

A little bit will go a long, long way

Just put yourself in their position, don't

We all wanna be loved

We all want just a little respect

We all wanna be loved

Tell me what's wrong with that

Faith and hope are worth a mention

But love is holding its position... cause

We all wanna be loved

We all want just a little respect

We all wanna be loved

Tell me what's wrong with that
