Spring Has Arrived!

May 24 2004
"April showers bring ____________________."

"The early bird gets the __________________."

"For your Word has given me _____________."

Most of us probably had no trouble filing in the blanks on the first two sayings, but did the third give you any trouble?

We find all kinds of reasons why we can't memorize Scripture, but it was pretty easy to do the first two, wasn't it?  The answer to the third can be found in Psalm 119:50, "For your Word has given me life."

The advent of spring brings all kinds of evidences of new life.  The crocuses poke their heads up from beneath the snow.  The brownish cover on the front lawn delights us as it turns to green almost overnight.  The ice on the lake begins to break up as the surface again reflects the color of the blue sky above and the budding trees around it.  Mother birds and their young make their way to the bird feeders, and that proverbial robin can be seen, early in the morning, getting his worm.

How about you?  Is your life reflecting the newness of spring that's visible all around you?  Or are you feeling a little lethargic - down in the dumps and lacking life?  There's good news for you, my friend!  The Psalmist says that God's Word gives us life!  If you need a spring "pick-me-up,"
pick up the living Word of God.  It is teeming with life-giving words of encouragement and strength for your soul.  Make it a DAILY part of your springtime routine . . . just like that early bird who can't wait to get that worm.  Let it nourish and strengthen your spirit.

"Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yeilds its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.  Whatever he does prospers."  (Psalm 1:1-3)
