| Nautilus with Roman Gold This work was inspired by the elegance of forms of the Nautilus seashell. 1st Firing I designed the outline of the shell directly on the porcelain and painted the outside with light gray and the inside and the center with golden orange. The large border was done using liquid bright gold. Fire to cone 018 2nd Firing All the colors were darkened. Where the shell curls towards the center, black, violet-of-iron, a little golden orange and american beauty were used. A little space of white porcelain was left unpainted were the real Nautilus shell shows mother-of-pearl tones. The liquid bright gold was covered with roman gold . Fire to cone 018 3rd Firing The little white space at the center of the shell was painted using a touch of purple and dark blue. Detailing with liquid bright gold was applied at the center and lower part of the shell. Fire to cone 019 4th Firing The contour of the little gold patterns and of some lines going diagonally across were made with penwork, using bestblack. Fire to cone 019 Maria de Lourdes Barradas |
