Fairy with Star I had this sketch since 1975. One of those things that we keep because they are nice -just a few lines, no colors or details. When I revisited the sketch in 1997, I decided to put it on porcelain, with one thing in mind: no flowers! I wanted something different! She is looking down, and seems sad and pensive; the falling star and the wings came naturally. 1st Firing The body, face and hair were carefully traced, and then painted with portrait colors. Fired to cone 016 2nd, 3rd and 4th Firings The figure was covered with red resist and the background was then done using midnight blue with the grounding technique. After peeling the resist, the body was painted again. This process was repeated at each of the firings. Careful handling of the piece is required during each stage of the process, since the background will still be wet. (to be done preferably in a desert island, single, with no children or phones) Fire to cone 018 5th Firing The star was painted using white and metallic white. The wings were painted using white, metallic white, and in some small areas soft pink and baby blue, applied very thinly, to achieve transparency. Fire to cone 018 6th Firing The border of the plate was done using liquid bright gold. The gold details on the wings were done using two drops of liquid bright gold in a gold pen.
