| The memorial to 3rd British Infantry Division at Hermanville, Normandy - near where the division landed on D-Day, June 6, 1944 - is unveiled on June 5, 1949. The ceremony was performed by the Division's wartime commander, Major-General Lashmer Whistler. In the top picture, the ceremony is about to begin. The bottom picture shows the memorial unveiled. Circled in the crowd is a young Lieutenant Jack Prior, of 92nd (Loyals) LAA Regt RA, making a return to Normandy for the occasion. |
