The Forgotten Gods
Disclaimer: Legacy of
Kain belongs to Edios and Crystal Dynamics not me. I am making £0.00 out of
this fic, it is written purely because I have a burning need to create.
Although I would like to own Vorador . . . then he’d be mine.
Warning: this fic contains YAOI
(GuyXGuy), blood play and a lemon, if this offends or upsets you do not read
this, it’s that simple.
MILD
Rating: M
Pairing: Janos/Vorador
Setting: pre all games.
Authoress note: Randomly
reading over my old fics and I remember this one being so much better than it
actually was so in my infinite boredom I am re-writing it . . . again.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I still
have the original version for those who want it. This version is completely different, does not follow the same story line as the
last one at all. (Really should have probably called it something else and
wrote it as a separate fic but oh well.)
Also I am assuming the ancients were affected by
water, but only after the curse.
Enjoy.

Chapter Two
It was still cold.
But this morning came with a good sign; the first of the rains had
fallen signalling a slow end to the season of ice and defencelessness. Soon the
rains would fall thick and heavy and the mortals would rejoice in this brief
respite from the vampire threat. This blessing had apparently not always been
so, Vorador had heard tale that the vampires weakness to water came with the
vampires curse. The priests of the villages often told that it was proof of
waters purity and of vampires damnation. It was an old
story and one that the mortal clung to desperately, for if it was true then
some benevolent creature was smiling upon them by giving them this weapon and
surely it would continue to smile upon them and one day when they had proven
their faith was strong enough they would be rescued.
Vorador did not believe such stories.
The first rain that fell in the morning light was a simple short shower lasting
only minuets but it was enough to improve the spirits of all mortals and
Vorador found himself humming as he walked from the village. He had little
business as of late and found himself needing to hunt more often than not, but
even the thought of that could not damped his mood this day. It was truly a
wonderful day and in his eyes the snow seemed less thick and the ice thinner
than yesterday.
Although it did not take at all long for
his mood to fall sour.
In his distracted happiness he had missed shots that should have been easy,
sent animals running with steps taken to quickly and too loudly and after the
fifth miss he found himself cursing loudly no doubt frightening away anything
in the surrounding area. His voice rose with each miss and by the end he was
calling so loudly that he felt it would shake the trees.
“you should not curse so.” The voice made the
mortal jump and he had to force himself to swallow the undignified cry that
threatened to escape. “I thought you hurt.” There was a pause as the one behind
him took in the mortal’s obvious fright “Forgive me I did not mean to frighten
you.”
“I’m not frightened of you.” Vorador grumbled not even turning to look
at the vampire that had crept up on him so easily “was startled, that’s all.”
He heard the creature laugh quietly as it followed him. “I’m surprised to see
you outside today.” He grumbled stopping at a fallen tree and leaning against
it
“The rains have not yet truly begun and I . . .” the vampire trailed off
looking uncomfortable, Vorador snorted and looked at
the vampire.
“Your going to eat before the fall right?” Vorador snapped, pinching the
bridge of his nose.
“I will
have to.” Janos agreed his voice stiff and uncomfortable “as will others.”
“We always
lose many before the rains fall, although not as many as we used to.” Vorador
spoke, his anger abating in the others company despite the tenderness of the
subject topic.
“Our numbers are not what they once were. We are dying.” The vampire
spoke softly, his words almost stolen by the wind. Vorador turned and snorted,
“Forgive me if I have little sympathy, need I remind you that we are
also dying because of you.” He regretted the harsh words instantly, for he knew
of Janos’ struggle against his blood lust
“yes.” The
vampire looked at the earth refusing to meet the mortals gaze
“I don’t
see why you do not hunt the beasts as we do.” He laughed but with no mirth “but
then that wouldn’t work either would it, we would still be dying because of
you, a slow starvation.” He shook his head
“You do
not understand.” Janos swallowed and seemed truly distressed as he turned to
look the mortal in the face. Vorador twitched at the look of intense lust in
the others eyes and felt his stomach knot but then a look of grief washed over
the ancient vampires face and Vorador found himself wishing he hadn’t flinched.
“I know
hunger Vampire.” The mortal grumbled, the vampire paused a moment before
nodding.
“Yes you
know mortal hunger but forgive me, this is different.” He sighed “I to have
felt hunger the way you do but this . . .” he struggled a moment with the words
“it is difficult to describe.”
“Try.”
Vorador looked to the vampire and blinked slowly the vampire was shaking, his
strange hands fisted tightly
“It starts
off small, like an itch and slowly becomes more intense until it is all
consuming,” Janos swallowed and Vorador wondered if it was wise to be having
this conversation. Janos had never been unemotional but Vorador had never seem him visibly struggle against his blood lust.
“Doesn’t sound much different than mortal hunger as you put it.” He answered although the harshness
was gone from his voice. The others visible distress making him uncomfortable
although not in the way others would be in this situation. Any mortal caught
near a vampire so visibly hungry for blood would be terrified but Vorador’s
discomfort came from grief, he felt sorrow at seeing the vampires struggle.
“You have
felt hunger mortal and you have felt lust.” The vampires
words were so quiet Vorador had to ask him to repeat, he blinked in startlement
at the statement but nodded and the vampire continued “it is somewhat like a
combination of the two.” Janos breathed. “a want and
need so deep that it causes me pain to restrain myself.”
Vorador
nodded that he could understand, for while hunger was a great force lust was
greater still. He had hungered before and it had caused him pain but he had
lusted before and never before had he had such a single minded determination to
have what he wanted.
“The want
for blood is strong, but it is not the only thing I want, it becomes so
confused when the hunger is strong. I want . . .I want
everything a mortal could possibly give me.” Janos let out a sharp unpleasant
laugh at his own words “I want their blood, their flesh; I want their soul,
everything they could possibly give me.” Vorador flinched again at the ancients
words “does it disgust you?” the vampire turned to look at his mortal companion
and the bloodlust was so strong in his eyes that the mortal felt all the hair
on his body stand to attention. His insides screamed at him to run, to flee to
find safety but instead he let out a slow steady breath and looked at his
friend.
“No Janos,
I am not disgusted.” He shook his head
“You are a
poor liar Vorador.” Janos looked away as he spoke and Vorador frowned “I can
hear how your heart pounds, I can smell the panicked sweat on your body, you
body makes a mockery of your words.”
“I am not
lying.” Vorador answered “I am not disgusted, I am afraid.” He swallowed “I am
afraid of your hunger, not you; yet it does not disgust me. I can almost
understand it.”
“How could
you possibly . . .” the vampire felt himself want to snarl, how could this
short lived boy understand his great pain, his great want.
“Her name
. . .” Vorador stopped and laughed “I have forgotten her name. I was young, she
was beautiful and she refused me. My lust twisted inside of me and turned into
something else. I no longer simply wanted her to love me,
I wanted her, everything I could take from her, flesh, blood, soul.” He shook his
head hard “I wanted to take her as mine so strongly that I hurt her, I marked
her. But I was to late, one of your got her before I did, and even now I cannot
make up my mind who could have hurt her more your
brethren or me.”
Janos was
silent as Vorador spoke and as the mortal fell quiet he could not think of
anything to say in return. But he did not have to as the mortal spoke again.
“Do I
disgust you?” He asked “I hurt one weaker than I and I do not have a bloodlust
curling inside of me. I simply had lust.”
“No.”
Janos answered before he could even think to do so. “You do not disgust me and
I think that maybe on a level you may understand me.” Vorador looked to the
vampire and smiled, again thinking how strange it was for him to feel so
connected to one so different from him, one so dangerous to him. it was then he noticed that the vampire was still trembling
next to him the mortal frowned and spoke softly.
“Surely
you can take without killing.” He reached out to touch the vampire, wanting to
offer comfort
“Don’t.”
the word was barked and he flinched again,
“But
surely . . . “he began but was interrupted
“Theoretically
you are right and I tried it once, but it won’t work.” The vampire sighed, he
was still shaking “the one I took from thought that I was simply drawing out
his death that I would attack again in a moment.” The vampire stopped and shook
his head.
“He struck
at you?” Vorador frowned, wonder why that would disturb the vampire so, surely
if he simply took to the air the mortal would understand and thank his good
fortune to only be wounded. Janos could not have been hurt,
a mortal even when fully well would still not be fast enough to strike at the
winged creature, let lone a mortal suffering blood loss.
“He struck
himself.” Janos looked to the mortal again, the
strange reddish glow to the vampire’s eyes had faded a little under the grief. “As did the next and the next.”
“Oh.”
Vorador mumbled stupidly feeling frustrated and somewhat dim for not realising
his own people would react thus.
“I am yet
to meet the mortal that would not flee my hunger.” Janos breathed meeting the
mortal eyes, making all the hair on Vorador’s body stand to attention. The
silence was thick with tension, Janos swallowed heavily and broke it quickly,
his hands trembling “but he has hidden himself away from me.”
“so you
kill,” Vorador felt his voice shake, whether from the uncomfortable silence
with deep implications or from the fact that he knew how close he stood to a
starving creature, he was not sure.
“So . . . I
concluded that one death every so often would be preferable to more deaths more
frequently, and I am becoming more apt at controlling it.” The vampire looked
at the mortal and managed a brief wobbly smile “but it is difficult.”
“But still
you try.” Vorador conceded “I suppose I have to respect you for that at least.”
“I am
grateful.” The vampire smirked spreading his wings and taking to the air; Vorador
laughed at the sarcasm, it was rare for Janos to be sarcastic and he found
himself enjoying bringing it out of him.
