Creation

The final Act

Book one

Disclaimer: Legacy of Kain belongs to Edios and Crystal Dynamics not me. I am making £0.00 out of this fic, it is written purely because I have a burning need to create. Although I would like to own Vorador . . . then he’d be mine.

Warning: this fic contains YAOI (GuyXGuy) and a lemon; if this offends or upsets you do not read this, it that simple.

Rating: NC-17

Pairing: Raziel/Kain

Setting: post all games

EXPRESS WARNING: Spoilers for all the games.

Summery: An ending is in sight but it is a long way off and the road leading to it has many twists, turns and hidden dangers.

Authoress note: I decided to make this into a trilogy, I hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. It was fun to write something set after the games, gave me a freedom you don’t normally get when writing fanfiction. My only question is what the hell I am going to write next.

Italics mean either flashbacks or thoughts

Chapter Three

“The pillars are black.” Janos breathed, “Black, as if they are . . . . Dead.” The ancient vampire looked at both his own fledgling and the reaver spirit; he frowned at them for a moment as if waiting for a reaction before he spoke again. “Why am I the only one panicking about this?”

“We have seen this before.” Vorador spoke softly standing and going to his father “despite the blackness I do not believe the lock is broken,”

“If you use another metaphor I will have to break one of your arms.” Raziel threatened but it went ignored by both elder vampires.

“How . . . .” Janos seemed to have trouble finding his words “how can it effectively be a lock when the key was destroyed.” Raziel again muttered something foul under his breath, the fledgling vampires temper seemed to have returned with the decline of his father. Vorador looked to the reaver spirit and shook his head and held his tongue, knowing his own temper had become somewhat shorter with the decline of his brother and the sudden decay of the pillars, panic and fear pushing him towards the end of his tether.

“I don’t understand how it works either.” Vorador admitted openly “I doubt even Kain has a clue, I doubt anyone does.”

“Those who made them would know.” Janos nodded to himself “but the builders have not returned with the rest of the race.”

“How convenient.” Raziel grumbled “the only people who could possibly understand what is going on are dead, how wonderful, got anything else so useful to . . . ouch!” he snapped when Vorador cuffed him

“Calm down Raziel,” he growled under his breath, the sound more animalistic than human “we are all confused. We are all worried. Stop acting as if you are the only one affected by this.” The reaver opened his mouth as if to speak but found himself realizing that Vorador was right, he was not alone.

He often found himself reacting like this when ever something happened, he always acted as if he was the only one able to fix it, the only one expected to fix it, but times had changed, the weight of the world no longer balanced on him and his father alone. He wasn’t alone, even if his father had seemingly retreated from reality he still was not alone, he had his brothers and he had Janos and Vorador. He sighed and glared at the older vampire, Vorador might be right but Raziel knew that he still didn’t understand and had no right to talk to him such. With a low snarl the reaver spirit stood and turning stormed from the room.

“His temper is worse than yours.” Janos sighed when the door slammed; Vorador tried a small smile but failed miserably and instead looked out the window at the pillars.

“I’m confident things are not as bad as they once were.” He breathed hoping he sounded more confident than he felt; Janos placed a claw on his fledglings shoulder.

“Things are different.” He conceded “but there are Hylden once again in the land, the pillars are blackened and the circle hide away in there tower arguing between themselves.” His voice dropped “and the scion is lost to us.” Vorador jerked away and Janos dropped his gaze “Raziel is loud, rude and utterly uncontrollable at times but we need him now and I do believe that you have succeeded in . . . annoying him.”

“It doesn’t take much.” Vorador managed to look a little embarrassed “but it might not be a bad thing he was always in a foul mood whenever I managed to corner him before, I think perhaps his anger drives him.” He smiled properly “he is much like his father that way.”

* * *

Kain’s room when Raziel had left had been dark; the double drapes shut tight against the offending light, and the scion sleeping on the bed. But now when he returned one of the draperies had been opened and the scion moved. He glanced about the room and a spark of panic shot through him when he realized he couldn’t see his father anywhere. But the panic was short lived when he glanced to the fire place and spotted his youngest brother petting a rather oversized white wolf. Shaking his head he walked over to the fire place to his brother.

“Melchiah.” He spoke softly noting the dozing wolf; Melchiah looked up at his brother and smiled warmly.

“I thought if I sat here long enough I’d find you.” Melchiah answered and gestured to the chair across from himself, Raziel took the chair and looked down at his father.

He was beautiful; a canine creature made of starlight, with pale golden eyes and fur just a little to long for an adverage wolf. Raziel wasn’t sure what he should actually call the creature his father could become, he was and wasn’t a wolf, he was wolf formed, but was far to large, larger than some small horses and his fur was diffrent, longer but not overly so, yet it had the same texture as his fathers human hair rather than the texture of true fur.

“he was like this when i came in.” Melchiah looked from his father to Raziel, “no one has been in here since he returned, none of the servants. I think he moved by himself.” Raziel sighed loudly and Melchiah frowned, surely it was good that their father was showing some awarness.

“it is a sad day when we find it cheering that he moved by himself.” He sat back watching as his brother leaned forwards running clawed hands over long white ears.

“Vorador seems confident that he’ll snap himself out of it. He told me he did this before.” Melchiah ruffeled the ears again before sitting back.

“he means Meridian, when the vampire arm moved to take Meridian, and Kain fell. That was diffrent though, he was in a proper coma, he slept solidly for two centuries, it wasn’t like this.” Raziel let his head fall into his hands

“what do you mean?” Melchiah asked

“it was a coma. This isn’t this is like somethings holding him in his own mind. He beats it back sometimes and those are the moments of clarity.” Raziel stopped

“like when i was sick.” Melchiah nodded to himself, Raziel nodded silently. “well if its like a block then its like what happened with his memory, we could call down fate again.” The younger vampire was becoming excited “she took it away before she can do it again.”

“wont work.” Raziel sighed “we need either the circle or Kain or both to call her down and the circle are next to useless and so is he.” Raziel nudged the wolf with his shoe, Melchiah frowned hard at his brother.

“Mortanius told me that if Kain knew we needed him then he would find a way to get out of this mess and sort himself out.” Raziel growled and looked at his ‘sleeping’ father “you know we need you. How can you not understand, we cannot do this by ourselves.”  His father did nothing; Raziel groaned aloud and slouched back in his chair. “There are times when I just want to kick him.” He grumbled

“Oh yea of little faith.” Melchiah smirked “you should trust him.”

“It’s easier for you.” Raziel glared “you don’t know him the way I do, you haven’t seen him make the mistakes I have. He’s not a god Mel.”

“I am well aware . . .” Melchiah started but was cut off

“No your not!” Raziel snapped “you can’t be, you haven’t seen what I’ve seen, you haven’t seen the look of panic he gets when some . . .” it was Raziel’s turn to be cut off

“Raziel stop it.” Melchiah snapped “you trusted him enough to give your life and that was after you’ seen these mistakes. Stop acting like a spoilt child and just have some bloody faith.” Raziel stopped and was silent for a moment after his brother’s words.

“You . . . you know you’re the second person to snap at me today.” He smiled a little and stood walking to the window, looking out

“Yes well you disserve it.” Melchiah huffed, Raziel smiled again.

“I think sometimes I do.” He breathed watching his breath fog on the glass. He made a small noise that made Melchiah turn in his chair “it’s nothing just Magnus and Sebastian, their heading into the swamp.” He turned moving back to his chair.

“Maybe you need some sleep.” Melchiah offered

“Maybe I do.” Raziel agreed leaning back in his chair, resting his feet next to his father, wondering briefly to himself how they would get white fur our from the rug.

* * *

“It’s to damn cold.” Sebastian snapped at his ‘brother’ “honesty Magnus for the love of . . .” his complaint was cut short when his brother launched a projectile at him

“Calm down Sebastian!” Magnus called back over his shoulder “you worry too much,”

“Nothing is going to be out in this weather you know that, I know that EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT!” Sebastian literally screeched at his brother, his own temper had never been sedate and now finding a release took it “this is the biggest waste of time.”

“Will you be quiet?” Magnus snapped at his offending brother and turned to face and giving him a chance to catch up.

Moving through snow was never the easiest of things for vampires to manage, steps had to be taken with care and shoes had to be worn, usually more than one form, not to mention cloth to protect legs. So not only did the vampire have to be careful to avoid burns but also had to try and move fast and lithe through the danger while padded like a small child with an over-enthusiastic parent.

“I will be quiet when you start to see sense.” Sebastian breathed when he reached his brother, “going to the pillars isn’t going to help.”

“Something at the pillars woke him up; maybe we can find it and bring it back.” Magnus explained for the twelfth time that evening

“You fool.” Sebastian sighed as they started walking again, “the pillars decay woke him up, he woke up went there watched it happen and came home again.”

“You don’t know that.” Magnus muttered smirking as they reached a wide expanse of frozen swamp water, giving the ice a test-press he leapt out onto it and slid down the slope with increasing speed, much to his brother’s distaste.

“You’re INSANE! Your going to get yourself killed.” Yet despite his protests Sebastian followed on instinct. Using his slightly higher body mass he managed to catch his brother, the grab nearly knocking both of them down. “Any idea how to stop without killing us?” he asked

“None.” Magnus answered arms flailing as he tried to keep his balance, this was ridiculous he’d watched Raziel slide on the ice before, the bastard had made this look easy . . . well easy until an ‘accidental’ telekinetic blast from Kain had knocked him on his backside. Magnus smirked he had to admit he liked Kain’s sense of humor at times. However Raziel had a strong resilience to water much like Rahab, which was something he and his brother lacked so falling while in no way fatal would probably give them so nasty burns.

“Well this is wonderful . . .” Sebastian was cut off sharply, when the two collided hard with a stone wall, the wall being part of the underground water way, thankfully now the water had gone.

“That hurt, a lot.” Magnus muttered pulling himself and Sebastian to there feet. The two worked together with much cursing from Sebastian but both managed to make a clumsy glide to the bottom of the shaft which led to the underbelly of the pillars.

“I hate this place.” Sebastian muttered after a moment, Magnus looked to his brother “it feels . . . wrong.”

“Why it was built by vampires.” Magnus shrugged, but even he had to admit the idea of that . . . thing living down here made him slightly reluctant to continue.

“It was built by vampires to house their ‘god’ and show the ‘injustice’ of a war which was started by them, caused their downfall and punished a race simply for being different.” Sebastian grumbled as they emerged into the underbelly and began the slow climb up to the platform held in suspension by the now blackened pillars.

“True.” Magnus conceded “but do I have to remind you that, the same race is now invading bring daemons with them, and are some how connected to the downfall of Kain.” Sebastian took a deep unneeded breath, watching as his brother moved ahead of him looking for the same handholds Magnus had used.

He had been interested in this whole ‘Hylden affair’ and had tried asking Vorador, Janos and Raziel all of which had not wanted to talk. He had in the end used underhanded tactics and had offered to ‘buy’ Kain alcohol. He had used this tactic before when he had been in Kain’s army and while alcohol had no ‘major’ effect on vampires it did loosen certain scion’s tongues. But even what he had learned from Kain had been confusing and clouded. He’d later confronted Vorador with precise questions the elder hadn’t been happy but had filled in the blanks.

“I wonder what it looked like.” He spoke randomly, “the parasite god I mean.”

“God knows.” Magnus answered “why do you care.”

“Well it freaked Kain out, Raziel refuses to talk about it and no one else alive has seen it.” Sebastian answered “I just want to know what it could have possibly looked like.”

“It hardly matters.” Magnus clambered onto the platform and reached down a claw to help his brother.

“I know but I can’t help but be curious.” Sebastian admitted but let it drop as he dusted himself off. Looking around he shivered but not from cold. This place was hollow, empty but for the lies that lay painted on the walls. Well perhaps not lies but still a very one sided telling of history.

“There’s nothing here.” Magnus muttered after a moment

“Well what did you expect?” Sebastian hissed, he had walked all this way knowing that there was nothing here; if there was something here surely Kain would have found it. Magnus looked disappointed though. Sebastian grumbled to himself, cursing his ‘soft spot’ for his brother. “These thing are alive right?” he muttered absently kicking the balance pillar “OI!” he hollered at the marble edifice

“Sebastian!” Magnus scolded “don’t yell at the pillars.” The sentence turned from a scold to a snigger quickly

“Well damn them!” Sebastian snapped “damn things cause nothing but bloody trouble and now we need some help so you can damn well give it.” He kicked the pillar hard enough to send a shake up his own bones “ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME!!” he kicked it again hard enough to knock himself back

“Seb you’re talking to a rock.” Magnus spoke monotone “people will think your men OUCH!” he snapped stopping mid-sentence when something hit him sharply on the head “what are you hitting me for he’s the one who was yelling.” He snapped at the balance pillar.

“Magnus.” Sebastian spoke reaching down

“What.” Magnus grumbled rubbing his head “stupid rocks.” He looked to his brother who was holding up a small glowing fragment, it was pure white and shining with power “whats that?” he asked

“I think . . . . I don’t know but I think . . .” Sebastian stuttered

“Spit it out Seb.” Magnus snapped reaching to snatch the stone but having Sebastian evade him easily

“I think it’s a fragment of the balance pillar.” Sebastian spoke softly

“But it’s . . .” Magnus started

“Pure.” Sebastian finished. They shared a look for a moment before turning and racing for the mansion in the swamps.
